We do so many things poorly it’s hard to pinpoint what to fix. Work as hard as you can for a contested two and give up a three to DeVries because you don’t know the ball screen coverage. Start the second half with four turnovers and three shot attempts in the first media segment. I posted recently about the offensive numbers and got told, well who gives a shit we’re 2-0! Well. I give a shit. The makeup of this roster, the system we are running, and the consistent mistakes won’t be going away. It’s what this team is. We’ll be competitive in spurts and win some games, but over the course of a season with the variance factored in this is a below .500 basketball team that is poorly coached and out-executed at both ends by good teams.
We can't have all these "Seniors" back next year. We need at least 4 additions from the portal to even have a chance to close the gap with Drake. Or we hope DeVries moves on and takes most of this team with him.

And I was thinking about making reservations for the Valley Tournament tonight! How many times do u give up the baseline? Can we ever play a zone? How do you switch with Kinziger on Devries with no help driving to the basket? Double on guys outside while your man rolls for the dunk. Lieb less is more...no more than one dribble. As many has said before..too much dribbling side to side instead of north to south. Uphill battle for top 6 finish.

Hard to tell at times if it’s bad coaching or bad execution or both - sometimes they’re a factor of each other. Multiple drives this game the held defender has been looking at the on-ball defender with his hands up and vice versa. More often that not our body language looks like guys who are sick of other guys making mistakes. The lack of trust on the floor is hurting us on both sides.

All of that seem to be right on the surface. I will say this. Drake is a more all around talented basketball team. Talent plays the biggest part in winning or losing games. Being out coached looks apparent win you have the less talented team. The top teams in the valley are really good year after year after year well before I started following closely.

ISU definitely has a lack of talent and there isn’t a lot we can do about it! However, allowing the team to play with no discipline and out of control is not acceptable. The coaching staff needs to get control of who should be taking 3 point shoots. This team launches too many 3 pointer and has a ton of turnovers. We will continue to struggle until this gets addressed.

Only nine assists for the entire game. You can't possibly say you are running a structured or disciplined offense when only around one-third of your field goals (9 assists on 26 field goals) come from an assist. We do not share the ball and the players are not making each other better.

I don’t care how many 3s you can make, Cant Play defense against Drake with 4 guards and Birds sure aren‘t shooting well enough to outweigh their inability to challenge shots. So how do you guard Devries- I had hopes that Lewis could do this with Foster holding down the 5. While I appreciate backside help, you can’t leave a shooter having a night like Wright.

On The offensive end, seemed the Birds reverted to “ the only way to get a shot is in transition or Jack up a challenged 3”. Drake did a good job on Foster.

I was hoping to see Sissoko in the first half when it was obvious we were being out physicaled. Is he hurt?

This offense is similar to what Muller ran. Lots of dribble at the top of the key and wings, low post comes out and sets a screen.

Mal stepped up physically and was able to score. Plays pretty good defense against bigger players. Mal has the best hands on the team. He has a pretty effortless and repeatable shot, he will get his groove back. Pence made a three. Ryan was ready to play. Hard game to find the positives.

Need to be more physical, especially the guards and forwards (in this game tough being physical against their rock in the middle). Drake knows how to drive an elbow into the body of the defender to create a little separation and get a shot off.

I would argue that our offense plays more like when Porter was here. Much it runs outside of the 3pt line with little to no movement toward the basket. We don't move a lot off the ball, and I would almost argue that we play a zone offense, where guys are assigned zones and stay there until a shot goes up and then they play defense.

With the team we have, I'd be running a lot of pick and roll at the top of the key between KLew/Foster and Burford and the bigs, and then part of the time I'd probably run Mal off some screens on the baseline to get open and utilize his shooting ability. I'd probably also increase the tempo to capitalize on Burford's speed.
