I wouldn't take Jans because I think his off the court stuff will get him in trouble, and it would be like hiring a ticking timebomb. At this point I would say the same about Gillespie that was suggested above. They can coach for sure, but it almost feels like a matter of time before they have an off court issue tanks all success they have.

Marshall, I wouldn't personally want because after sitting behind the visiting bench his entire Valley tenure, I can tell you that he is abusive and toxic to everyone around him. That said if ISU hired him, I wouldn't stop watching and we would likely win. The guy can coach, but he's a grade A-asshole.
I would. If he does something shady that’s easy to terminate a contract. We are seeing that it’s hard to fire Golden Boy Dan. Because he isn’t a good coach- and you can’t terminate because you suck at your job.

Patently false. You can fire any coach pretty much for any reason. You just have to be willing and able to absorb the cost of the remaining contract and the potential blowback (tho I doubt there’d be much for firing Dan, at this point). The first one is the primary reason ISU will use should this year’s team tank (tho they’ll say it’s for a different reason). Dan’s COY in 2017 bought him an extension and relative security for 2-3 years (reason 2). COVID loaned Dan another year.

Should this team have to play on Arch Thursday, Dan’s loan comes due. Should this team make a very improbable run and end up in the dance, the COVID loan will be reinstated. Any other result will leave Dan with no protection save the cost. Our AD & prez must be willing to absorb the cost. I don’t know either well enough to say they will.

If anyone on here believes Dan needs to go should we play on Arch Thursday, you need to be making the case NOW with our AD and prez. Not here, ‘cuz they don’t care what’s said on here. Sure they may read it, but they’re not making business decisions based on what us yahoos are saying here.

True- we would have to buy out Dan thru the end of his contract. That seems to be the big problem. With the attendance numbers I doubt ISU cares about the "covid loan" year...they care more about the 1 million dollars plus they would have to buy Dan out. If Marshall did something ignorant that is ethically wrong- that would be easy grounds for termination. Being a lousy coach in itself isn't grounds to not pay the remaining contract. That just means Larry Lyons was a poor judge of selecting coaches. That means you are right. Dan can be terminated anytime...but ISU would have to use the 2900 attendance revenue to pay Dan his payday. Since his one great year...his average record per year is 13-17. He better have a great year to improve on that. Covid didn't stop Baylor from winning the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

What? Because his wife is an assistant?
Because he has won everywhere he has been. It’s ok that you don’t like him as a person. He was able to recruit and win at Winthrop and Wichita. Some didn’t like Stallings attitude. But, who cares if he wins! I don’t have to live with him.

I would trend towards a no on Chris Collins...however Porter Moser did pretty good with his second chance as a head coach!

I liked Donewald too. He was a recruiting machine for a long time. He could also develop the talent.
& difficult to get along with sort of like you know who. Donewald and his spouse were not foul mouthed cussers like a sailor types, though.

I think Donewald was very consistent when he yelled at players. When a guy shot too quickly, made a careless pass, got beat back on defense, didn't block out, etc.....we waited for it and knew the player was most likely going to get taken out or get chewed out. As fans we all knew the team's identity and what was expected. For the last few years, we have no idea what our identity is or even what a bad shot is.

Ummm . . . From what I understand from fans who sat around the bench while he was here, Donewald swore with the best of them. Legend has it that his wife made him clean up his language after getting fired by ISU.
