Are people planning on attending the "official" ISU tailgate event, or winging it at local establishments?
We will probably stop by the Union during the tailgate but not eat there. We will be hitting up some local establishments earlier in the day. Haven't decided on which ones on which days that we'll be in town. We are always open for suggestions of new places to try in Madison.

Just to clarify, the function is at Union SOUTH, not the "real" Union on the lake. Don't want you to go to the wrong place. Not sure if you caught that in the announcement.

I took a week long class up there a few years ago. Several of the guys in the class did a pub crawl one night. We ended up eating at the Old Fashioned on the square. It was pretty solid. Definitely worth a stop in.

I did miss that on the announcement. We always hit up the "real" Union and talk about how it is "just like" the Bone. I don't know how the students get anything done there.

It's been a few years since we've been the Old Fashioned so we had talked about hitting it up. Another good place near the square is the Great Dane. Good food and a nice restaurant on one side, pool tables and shuffleboard on the other side. Lots of fun places to stop up and down State St.

I'll toss out a few ideas for pubs and food and such, recognizing everyone's taste is different, and many of you, like Cindy, have enjoyed Madison before and have some places you've already scouted. Also remember that the Taste of Madison is on the Capitol Square Saturday and Sunday so access and parking may not be ideal.

Fairly new woodfired pizza place on the corner of Main and King, on the square, Lucille, a couple dozen craft beers on tap.

Lotsa local folks enjoy Genna's, a long time joint on the corner of Main and Hamilton on the square. Crafts on tap, not so much on the food.

Someone mentioned going to the Tornado Club for steak, it is a cool place and I've been there many times, but my favorite steak is a block off the square at Johnny Delmonico's. For those of you willing to spend for dinner.

If you're willing to drive a couple miles away from downtown, one of my favorite places is Off Broadway Drafthouse. Good reasonable food, outside patio, lotsa crafts on draft and in bottles/cans. Worth the trip. Farther down Broadway, Buck and Honey's is a little more upscale and more of a restaurant, but a nice place, outside dining on the river, good food, good cocktails, pretty good beer list.

Also out aways (mile or so from downtown on the east side) is a neighborhood on Atwood Avenue, you'll find many pubs and restaurants, including One Barrel Brewing, a small craft brewery serving homemade bbq, and farther down a new place, Starkweather Brewing Co., crafts on tap and bar snacks. Harmony Bar on that stretch is a very cool old tavern with great food and beers.

Oh, and also have to mention a new "asian" place I really like - The Little Palace - on King Street a couple blocks off the square (just down the block from Great Dane Brewpub. It's kind of a retro, new style "chinese" restaurant, great food, fun cocktails, nice people

There's a lot more, of course. And there'll be thousands of other football fans and regular folks running around on Saturday especially.

Lots of good places there MadBird. We haven't tried Starkweather Brewing so that may be added to our brewery day. Other good breweries in the area if people are looking are Youngbloods right off the square. Delta Beer Lab and Working Draft are a little further away but worth it.

If you are looking to experience some "tourist/college bars" on State St I recommend State St Brats, Kollege Klub, Monday's, and the Irish Club.

Dotty Dumplings is a great burger place near State St and Nitty Gritty is a good bar just down from there.

If you are looking for something to do on your way up or back home a little bit out of the way is Wisconsin Brewing and Hop Haus Brewery in Verona. And of course New Glarus Brewery is always worth a stop. I think the brewery is closed on Saturdays and Sundays but I highly recommend stopping in the town of New Glarus. Great town with lots of good pubs.

We will be at Memorial Union on Thursday afternoon.

Weather people introduced last night a chance of showers for Saturday. This morning's forecast is for 30% chance after 1pm Saturday. Couple channels kind of played it down, but we'll see. Toss the poncho into your bag before you come.

We've got the advance team (Madbird, Cindy00) and probably a few others already in place. We're heading up this evening. The buses roll tomorrow. Lots of players have family and friends coming. I think we'll have maybe 1500 Redbird fans there which means we will be outnumbered about 50 to 1.
That's ok. We will make up in quality what we lack in quantity. Rise Up Redbirds!

We got in town around 3:00 Friday. It is mobbed. Be prepared for heavy traffic on I-39, 12/18, and all over town. Allow lots of extra time if you want to be here in time for kickoff. Super fun atmosphere and beautiful college communit.

I feel bad I didn't get to catch up with any of you during the weekend. Our plans changed some today and we didn't get to the "official" tailgate, ended up going straight to the stadium. Saw a fair number of Redbirds from row 36 in Section X - we were a few rows up from the band and visitors section. The Badger faithful around us were very good sports.
