I think this might be a good situation for Brandon and the Birds. I'm optimistic. As I am married to an ex-illinette, I watched them play a fair amount this past season. They underachieved for the third straight year and I can't believe that underwood is not feeling some heat right now.

Welcome, Brandon. Let's go BIRDS!!!

I'm hoping he plays like Vlad Goldin with FAU...but he doesn't shoot 3's. That team is built for success as a mid-major.

I'm ok with a guy with size that can hit the three, as long as that's just an add on to his post play. Pick and pop or screen and roll. Which way will he go, would be a nice option to keep defenses guessing.

Im hoping he can pass and grab rebounds. My buddy who has seen a lot of him agrees with what others on here have said. Really thinks he is a solid get for the Redbirds.

1. Stay healthy
2. Do your job in the paint
3. Play hard nose ball but don’t b saddled on the bench due to foul trouble.

I mean he is better than Petrakis and should be better defensively than cheese. Hopefully he turns the ball over less as well.

Both Joe and Cheese weren’t effective bangin in the paint. One didn’t like it and the other’s body didn’t hold up to the punishment of play.
I have no idea how much BL likes physicality but we need that from him/Chase/Schmitt and Lewis when they work the paint.
Pedon knows what is needed to compete now in MVC - he had his year to gain wisdom so we got a lot riding on the additions of Brandon and Chase to the mix.

I'm not sure how you can say this. We can hope, but there's no way to know. Petrakis - and for sure, he wasn't much help this year - started 30 games at W.Carolina and averaged 8 ppg and 3 rpg. 19 blocks. 58-168 from three. Averaged 23 minutes for game. No, not the Big 10+. But he played and scored and defended and has a record.

Lieb has promise, hope, experience banging against Kofi and Dainja. But not good enough to see the floor on a team that DESPERATELY needed some help last year.

Illinois desperately needed guard play. Their bigs were fine.

Lieb will absolutely contribute more than Petrakis did. It’s not even a debate.

That wasn't what he said - contribute more. He said Lieb "was better" than Petrakis. I said there's no way to know, right now. There's a good chance Lieb will contribute more, since Petrakis contributed not much. Anything would be more. Lieb might be "better". We'll find out. I'm not sticking up for Petrakis. I'm just saying he had a short, one year, mid-major track record that on paper was much more than Lieb has. Lieb couldn't find the floor for the Illini. For three years. I'm glad to have him, maybe he'll find his game.

I have zero respect for a lack of effort. A traffic cone would have given better effort on defense than Petrakis so the bar isn't set very high. And his screens were half ass as well. I would point it out to Broomhilda and even she saw it. That stuff is contagious so I'm hoping I won't be watching that crap this winter. I think Lieb will play hard.

Plus I remember watching the coaches show with Lewis. Lewis said if he wanted to laugh and get in trouble he would sit next to Petrakis on the bus. Seems Petrakis was also a problem when he wasn't playing.
