Part of the new FBS requirements are as follows:

All FBS programs must provide 90% of total number of scholarships over a 2-year rolling period across 16 sports, including football.

FBS schools will also be required to fund 210 scholarships per year, amounting to no less than 6 million dollars a year. (starting august 2027

you may be way off with your analysis?....dropping the stadium capacity requirement/attendance requirement may have made it less expensive (and maybe a lot) than a $5,000,000 fee? i know nothing of delaware's stadium capacity/attendance. but for isu that would likely be a beneficial trade-off.
if we are near the required schollies maybe we ought to beat it to fbs too? certainly schollies is a big consideration too. just too much publicity and money in fbs to continue avoiding fbs when we are so close to being there. fcs returns little to nothing to isu or other universities hence the on going movement up. the delta on increased revenue vs expenses could be positive? we may have to make some significant changes to the athletic depart strategy but it seems time to consider all options anyway. another obstacle is the reality that no conf will want us. going fbs may never be an option if were are not a good addition. get out the white board and calculators and make some calls!! actually make the calls first as nothing matters if we have no place to go!

This is tantamount to saying you need to be in a conference with a fat tv deal to raise the dough to meet those financial requirements.

Maybe a bottom feeder in the Big 10 or SEC gets enough with their relatively small share of post game play (bowls, tournaments) to meet those requirements.
Nuts
how much is isu already paying annually in schollies? isu subsides the athletic department $10mm a year...i assume (i could absolutely be wrong ) a big chunk of that is tuition write-off which is a bit off "funny money" depending on isu's academic capacity? it seems as though mac schools get 1 to 2 million per year in rights licensing more than isu. it does not take long for $5mm to be paid off if that is the case.

Good point ... I just like to do memes.

But actually knew other requirements were being reduced and several FCS schools said the $5m was not the issue .. schollies were. But beyond that, I'm just not knowledgeable enough to work thru all the existing and modified requirements.

Though ultimately it just seems like we don't have the donor or fan base to make this move. Only in our best years do we draw close to 10k average across 6 home games.

This quip from the Delaware Stadium Wiki page:

Average attendance for the 2022 season was 16,902 which was 8th in the FCS, and in 2023 season it was 15,656 which was 10th in the FCS. Average attendance for the 2006 season was 21,825; second only to the University of Montana. By comparison, most FCS teams attract 10,000 on a good day

They did not accurately calculate our average attendance at all haha. We did not announce an attendance for the UNI game for whatever reason. They calculated our attendance by adding 5 games of attendance and dividing by 6 🤦‍♂️ They counted the UNI game as an attendance of 0.

Our average attendance was probably closer to 8,131 (I duplicated the Murray State game attendance as an estimate for the UNI game), good for 40th.

Also, the athletic department said attendance was up 13% this year. If that was the case, then they computed the average attendance as 8,125.
