Am I missing something? Walker was 0/3 against Wesleyan. He was 1/3 against Belmont with 2 rebounds. There was so much undue optimism that people are acting like if he played this season would be drastically different. We don’t even know if he’s good yet.

He had 4 points and 2 boards in only 6 minutes of play. 24 minutes of play, he might very well be around 16 points and 8 boards.
Dia for them had 17 pts and 6 boards in 27 minutes.

IWU game he had 6 boards in 11:30 minutes. 23 minutes of play, might produce around 12 boards.

The way he played against Belmont didn't give you any optimism at all?

If he was a 16 and 8 guy a night, Pedon wouldn’t have initially redshirted him. But I am optimistic so I hope he can provide some type of stability inside.

That isn’t really how it works. If he scored 2 points in 1 minute, would you say he’s going to score 80 the next game? I am not optimistic for this season. For the future, maybe. He’s a freshman post player who has never played college basketball and I don’t think he’s ready to be a contributor against the MVC with no prep at all outside of some practice time against our bigs who aren’t that good. Expecting him to be Malik Dia who has played 35 college basketball games and has scored in double figures 11 games in a row is a leap I’m not ready for.

Color me confused about pulling the redshirt, but since the valley is all about winning on Sunday in the Lou, nothing else matters for a team like us. We just need to be better in March. Hell, the a**holes at the ncaa even pulled the NIT auto bids so the window of post season play has been further reduced. 30+ games mean squat. The winner of the Sunday Lou game gets the golden ticket. Period.

If Walker can help us get there, then GO YOU REDBIRD!!
