I’ll take a different approach…
Why are politics, and it’s obvious influence on all sports, so taboo to talk about? We’re all adults here.
Let it flow…
I think they call this Twitter ... problem is not the debate, if constructive ... but it tends to go nowhere and get real ugly.

I don't think we've reached that point, but we'e on verge and it is slippery slope .. said everyone ever.

I see what you’re saying, but this seems like a pretty reasonable group. Also, since we’re all ISU alums, incredibly intelligent:)
I, for one, appreciate other people perspectives; including topics as toxic as politics.
That said, such a shame that we’ve come to a point where you have to so fearful of expressing your opinions.
On that note, I just read this article and thought it was exceptional, enough so that I’d like to share…

Because no one is able to keep things civil any more, especially when no one knows who you are. It hasn't been too bad yet.

Yes I could shut it down but I get feedback that I do that to quickly. So I'll let this one ride I guess.

I'm bad with boundries. Ask my kids.

Please make it go away.
Sorry Madbird, I don't get this at all. No one is making anyone read this thread much less post in it. It's not like the BB board where I TRY to avoid the incessant anti-Dan rants. There is a 44-page Fire Dan thread. I've never read a single post on that thread. No need. I get all the anti-Dan crap I can handle reading game threads. Not only is it disagreeably written, it's incredibly repetitive. When I get too much I go back to the FB board or I shut down my laptop altogether. Problem solved.

What most people are really saying is that they don't want to read viewpoints they don't agree with, which is kind of strange because I thought that was the whole point of a message board. It's an exchange of ideas and you aren't always going to like what you get.

I'll use CaliRdBrd as an example. Occasionally he has an entertaining comment, he's probably a great guy to have a beer with. But most of his posts are negative in nature and I don't respect them. I don't respect that style of posting because to me it lacks sincerity. He claims to be a Redbird Fan but what kind of fan shows up when things are going bad and almost never celebrates the good? So with one hand I write a post condemning what he does (you're free to criticize here, but that means you can be criticized in return), meanwhile I have the other hand free to fight anyone that would try to take away his right to do it. I don't like his posts but I do not recall ever having deleted anything he has said, nor have I ever asked isuquinn to take any action against him.

That's what free speech is all about. I'll bet well over 90% of survey respondents would say they believe in Free Speech but many of them are only talking about the freedom of others to express ideas they agree with. Naturally Free Speech is not unlimited (yelling "Fire" in a crowded theatre, death threats etc.) but once you get beyond those types of things, I have a rather high tolerance.

There is a person here that far exceeds me in patience and tolerance. His screenname is isuquinndog, but he is known as "Mike" to his friends. I don't know if I fall into his "friends" category right now lol. I know he doesn't like some of the things that I have posted in this thread. That's why he is my Hero. There have been a lot of ideas expressed in this thread that he personally does not agree with. He's better than me. He doesn't lash out. He doesn't censor. He displays tolerance and the patience of a Saint. He is a true believer in Free Speech and Diversity of Thought and Mike Quinn makes this the BEST DAMN MESSAGE BOARD ANYWHERE!

I recently PM'd the boss to express to him my admiration for his tolerance, patience, etc. And to explain my wish to "make it go away" was not a request to close the thread.

I'll leave it there, I agree with most of what you wrote. I just don't need to see a) the FB board turn into a junior BB board; and b) anyone's opinions on politics in general or any articles from any fringe crazies. I'm here to talk Redbird sports, not the cold cruel world we're living in. That's why I come here, to get away from all of that. ;)

Well said.
I can’t argue with your perception of me, it’s pretty accurate. I have been very negative regarding this program.
Like everyone else, I just want better.
Peace to all ‘Birds during the holiday season.

You're a hard man to dislike. I should probably give up trying.
+1- Yeah, let's get better.
