Alan Beaman, the wrongly accused IWU student who spent 13 years in state prison for the 1993 murder of ISU student Jennifer Lockmiller, has settled with the town of Normal for 5.4 Million - per town council approval.

That's about 1/10th of what he should receive. It's about freakin time. Alan has been screwed over and over, even AFTER 2008...when his murder conviction was overturned and he was released from prison. He has received a full certificate of innocence from the State of IL.

The reason I started this topic...I go to The Pantagraph site and all socal media...not a freakin peep. Just amazing. Disgusted with the lack of coverage of...so much. Big props to WGLT for immediately passing on the press release, which the panty still hasn't done.

I lived a small parking lot away from Jennifer when this happened. Probably like some of you, we heard details, immediately, that later came out publicly. Even though I didn't know her, I still think about Jennifer. ISU has 2 unsolved murders...on campus. Jennifer...and Carol Rofstad in late 1975. In addition, Jelani Day was an ISU grad student who was found in the Illinois River in 2021. May Jelani, Carol, and Jennifer - and their cases - NEVER be forgotten.

Don’t disagree with anything you’ve said . . . but we’ll forget sooner than you think. It’s what we’re best at.

I am friends with a local journalist who has covered many trials including the Beaman case and other murder trials. The journalist told me that it was obvious from the beginning they had the wrong person and that Beaman was the most innocent person of any trial that the journalist had ever covered. I'm surprised the verdict is that small.

Beaman was his own worst enemy at trial. If he had cut his hair and acted persecuted instead of acting cocky he might have gotten off. The evidence was razor slim but he gave the jury no reason to side with him

Hulk...he was very young, not experienced, and pissed off at life in general. I look at my younger days and some of those thoughts make me shake my head in absolute bewilderment and I wonder how I escaped idiot'atry. (my own personal dictionary)

Or have I?

His lawyers fault as much as his for not image prepping him. I remember watching him on the local news each night and thinking he wasn’t doing himself any favors

I'm too young to remember the case, I was in jr high in 1993 over by Peoria so I'm sure it was on the news there I just don't remember it.

But as far as image and chalking it up to being young.....even if you are young, if you are on trial for murder you gotta understand what is going on.
