I can't believe the finalist for our new AD position turned into a typewriter race debate. Only in 2020. At this point I hope they hire an African American/Hispanic/queer and becomes the best AD in ISU history. Before this conversation got way to deep my only request is they hate Bradley, Uof I, and want to win! Come on everyone let's get back to talking about how we don't have an IPF, not in the SEC, and the bball team has a washed up coach that can't recruit. Merry Christmas!
I’m assuming some of these comments are directed at me. If so, I’ll clarify for the obtuse...I’m 100% on board with a black, queer, AD as long as that individual is most qualified. I could care less who the individual is, it’s the “we need to hire a minority” at the expense of a more qualified non-minority candidate. If so, that’s bullshit.

Again, you're missing my point. I'm not talking about the top. I'm talking about Athletics Admin entry points (getting people into the pipeline when they're young) to be able to move up the ladder. Surely you're not arguing that minorities aren't qualified to get into the pipeline at the ground level?
Not only was Lyons not the best candidate when he ascended to AD, but he clogged the pipeline with his white relatives. May as well have hired an under qualified minority candidate then, as long as they were already making a hiring mistake. ISU athletics is already a joke. May as well just put a bow on it with an under qualified minority hire, and become a complete laughing stock in the name of social justice.

That said, I know Michael from EIU. Great guy, Check. Great family. Check. Great AD? Don’t really know. But I’m reading here that is not important since he was born a white male. Too bad many here don’t feel he deserves a chance due to his immutable qualities. He’s probably better off at EIU, if the alternative is the virtue signaling ISU Wokebirds.

Cali,

My comments were not at anyone or I would have called that person out. The thread about the hiring of a human turned into a race debate on a sports fan board. That is what I find ridiculous. But now that we are talking are you against the Rooney rule in the NFL?

Good question. I see no harm in a policy that mandates interviews for minorities, so I’m ok with the Rooney Rule. I’m just a fan of the “blind taste test” in which the best person is hired.
I liken it to Selection Sunday when they take away the names and compare the resumes. Often times the non-P5 team looks better but is unfortunately rarely chosen.

We all know the blind eye test in the NCAA tourney does not happen! POWER 5 is what they want lol. Cali, do you ever come back for bball or football games?

Agreed (unfortunately).
I try and go to all west coast games (last one was when we got pummeled at SDSU).
In regard to football, I went to see us trounce Colorado State (I have a brother that lives in Boulder). So awesome and I highly recommend that stadium for a game (great beer garden!)
Saw us lose at Iowa (both my brothers went there). God damn, that was some miserable weather.
Was most excited to see us at Illinois and was going to hit the ISU campus first with a bunch of my buddies (we all graduated in ‘90, but I personally haven’t been back since ‘93 when I saw us whip Bradley in a packed Redbird Arena).
I do donate though.
That said, if we lose to Chicago State today, I may pull the plug on everything ISU-related and have my memory erased:)

We were at the CSU game too. My God that stadium is beautiful. The win was so sweet too. Yeah the Iowa game was beyond hot. Good news we were able to beat Chicago St. and our coach wasn't punched in the nose. Yeah I had a big weekend planned for the uofi game this year. I think we could have beat them. Oh well, hopefully we get another shot.
