Indiana State did not beat any playoff teams. That probably hurt them. They should have been in though.

JSU (8-3), Mont St (7-4), Incarnate Word (7-4), and ETSU (7-3) all made playoffs without beating a playoff team. Lamar (6-4) only playoff win was over Incarnate Word.

I thin JSU deserved bid for sure, and Mont St is certainly not and unreasonable pick with their SOS ... but Incarnate Word, ETSU, and Lamar are all very suspect picks.

That said, MVFC was not real strong this year .. but we definitely deserved a 4th bid. The deoth was very good, but the strength/consistency at top was not apparent enough. But put any of those 3 suspect teams in MVFC, and this isn't even a discussion point.

Not sure CAA deserved 6 bids, though they clearly deserved 5 without doubt ... they have so many teams in their conference, that many of their top teams didn't have to play each other .. Maine got a seed at 8-3 but didn't have to play 3 of the top 4 Colonial teams, and played 2 very weak FBSs .. how weak ? Those 2 FBS teams were only the 7th and 8th toughest teams on Maine's schedule per Massey (FBS # 122 and #123 per Massey) ... and barely winning one and losing the other. For perspective, CSU was #108 per Massey and we put them away. Maine deserved a bid for sure at 8-3 and even won CAA, but not a seed. Elon finished 6-4 because they had a game canceled due to weather .. still got in at 6-4 as 6th best team from CAA ... probably entirely because they beat JMU.

I don't think Incarnate Word beats Montana State, but I wonder if Iowa State reached out to ILST? I doubt it, but it makes sense geographically.

We have already played 11 games, so couldn't play even if we wanted to - NCAA limits us to 11 games this year. Drake had a game cancelled and has only played 10,

NCAA allowed Bethune-Cookmn to play 12 to go play at Nebraska. I’m guessing going to play at a P5 will get a quick waiver from the NCAA because the P5 school needs it. I would go play them for a few hundred thousand; good money for the budget.

CAA really showed they were over rated today. JMU yawned it's way past a Delaware team that doesn't have an offense while the rest of the league went 0-3. For getting a record 6 teams in the playoffs (which was mentioned quite often) they really choked. One day into the playoffs and we have more teams left in the tournament.

The worst performance was Towson losing to weak autobid Duquesne from NEC, and fact that the 4 losing teams got outscored in 2nd half by combined margin of 76 to 3. Just a total collapse. So of the 6, only JMU and over-rated 7th seed Maine. Maine won the Colonial conference, but did so because they didn't have to play 3 of the top 4 Colonial teams. Rough day considering it is first time 6 teams have ever been selected from 1 conference.

But in all fairness, I think this will go down as the year parity struck FCS hard .. very hard. After Bison, it has been a year where no one seemed to be able to consistently prove they are an elite team this year. The top 25 was very fluid week to week, and the bubble was so weak, it wasn't even hotly debated except for a few questionable teams IMO ... all 3 lost, but 2 of the 3 most questionable, held their own (6-4 Lamar and 7-3 ETSU) in losses. Only one proved to be pretender .. 6-4 Incarnate Word.

By the way, many on AGS including me were stunned that a year after Southland didn't get 8-2 McNeese St an at large, they sent 2 different 6-4 teams this year. This despite perenniel playoff contenders, SHSU and UCA, falling off to 6-5. Some believe it was payback deal .. but makes no sense a year later, the Conference slips, and two 6-4 teams from 6th best conference would get at large bids. Most believed 6-4 ISUb clearly deserved an at large bid.

Back to Colonial .. they seemed to rise above it all as a conference, and I assumed they were THE dominant conference again after MVFC reigned (arguably) since 2011 or 2012. But apparently with 14 teams, many of their 8-3 and 7-4 teams didn't have to play 2 or 3 of the top Colonial teams. So their records were technically inflated .. and so they crashed and burned come playoffs. Any Given Sunday may apply, but still .. they went 1-4 .. with the only win being JMU over Delaware, so CAA had to win one.

Bison should roll thru playoffs .. in theory.
