Just ahead of UNI and YSU who both dropped out. Finally picked up some votes in the Stats Perform poll, good for 41st.

a little premature for us, but I'll take it and do now believe this team will become a playoff team.

YSU is legit - they made Ohio St work for their 37-7 win. UNI is hard to figure at this point. I still believe they are legit good .. but negative plays are killing them in their 2 losses to Iowa St and Weber St. I think they are having OL difficulties or the front 7s of their 2 opponents are just very good.

Could be both?

UNI turns the ball over too much. Hard to take them seriously when they can't protect the pigskin.

Yeah, theye in a funk right now with TOs and TFLs/Sacks. But they did play 2 very good defensive teams, unlike ourselves. Last year stats ... Iowa State went just 4-8 last year, but had a top 5-15 defense in FBS in most stats. Weber St defense was 3rd in total yards per play, 4th in pass defense, 14th in yards per game last year. So these are 2 very strong defenses, one being FBS strong. Then they had 6 TOs against Weber St, plus 5 sacks.

I'm not going to sleep on UNI just yet. Theo Day is a very good QB .. but maybe they have OL issues they are working thru and got thrown into a frying pan before they were ready.

I’ve always followed Massey Composite rankings, even though some of the ranking systems they include are clearly biased.

Certainly way too early to mean very much, but it’s nice to see Massey put ‘Birds at #16.

I personally thought that getting zero national attention didn't make any sense. ISU has been FCS relevant for more than a decade now and I was hoping that we would come out with at least 2 dominating wins. That has indeed happened and I think 25 makes sense, TBH. I'd like to see more consistency out of the passing offense, but overall, I think this is about where we should expect to be, at minimum, every year.

I thought this was a thread about Frank Beamer. That said, we could use some drastically-improved Beamer ball (special teams play) to continue riding up the rankings.
