Also, we put in Ty Blake for 1 minute last night? I don't understand why we would burn the true freshman walk on's redshirt of all people?

Just noticed the Pantagraph article. Not much content at all (they bundled this game with the outcome of the tournament), possibly the shortest story I've ever seen written about an Illinois State game and just like Pedon wasn't on WJBC after the loss last night, there is no quote from him about this game at all. I don't remember a time that this has ever happened.

I support coach Pedon and the team but must admit, this feels like the most dissappointing loss I've experienced from ISU, especially considering the expectations that have been building. I feel Pedon is a great ambassador and we have a team of kids with great character who are team players. Something just doesn't add up.....

Here is how yesterday compares to some of our worst losses over the years:

11/22/23 vs Wright State 49-74
2/22/23 @ Drake 51-82
1/19/22 @ Missouri State 63-88
2/1/21 @ #25 Drake 60-95
12/28/20 @ Loyola 55-86
12/27/20 @ Loyola 60-90
11/25/20 @ Ohio State 67-94
2/20/19 @ Indiana State 50-73

You have to go all the way back to 11/15/04 to find a margin of loss even rivaling yesterday in a MTE. We lost to Marquette by 28 sandwiched between wins over Penn State and Ole Miss. I'm usually pretty optimistic, but yesterday was an embarrassment. We've had some ugly MTE results over the years but even those games against top 10 opponents, Power 5 teams, etc. were prettier than yesterday. We lost to Wright State yesterday. We showed we are not even close to ready for MVC play which starts next week. Pedon is in his second year. This is the last year he gets any sort of grace for results like this. This game can either tear the team apart, or it can be a turning point. I sure hope it is the latter. This is a deep roster with talent, now its up to him to coach it. I'd like to be in St. Louis the second weekend of March.

Edit: the Marquette MTE was in Milwaukee so sort of the same story as the Ohio State game but point still stands.
Great post.
I said I’ll give Pedon three years to put his “stamp” on this program before I start to question the direction of this program under him.
I’ll stick with that plan…

There was no post game interview. One of two things happened- Pedon either spent more time in the locker room than usual and Fitz didn’t feel like filling the time like Luedke would’ve or SID told Fitz Pedon wasn’t coming out. I guess a potential third option is that Fitz had to give up his broadcast space for the next game.

Either way, there’s a responsibility to the fans to share your thoughts after the game regardless of outcome. I don’t like we didn’t hear from him. I doubt there will be any articles with quotes from him coming out. Vidette obviously didn’t go and Randy at the Pantagraph is spread too thin as their only writer.

I can usually find something positive to pull from a drubbing. Not this one. Unless you’re Nik Stadleman and your season 3pt % is 100. Flush it. Move on. No need to even watching this tape. Very disappointing leading into another long break in the schedules.

Pedon is keeping the team there for thanksgiving then they’ll travel home and I imagine with most of the roster being drivable to home, they’ll get some family time before coming back Monday or Tuesday next week. 8 days worth of yuck is tough.
Plus a lot of the parents were already at the games so I’m sure they are all spending Thanksgiving together!

I am hoping for a follow up article but we will see. Was disappointed no show on the post game. But 8 days off and a chance at a reset. 2 winnable conference games, and if you won those most everybody is hyped again for a successful season.

If his priority was to go chew arse or possible to get the players home quickly for the break then so be it. The only thing he could do was either lie or say nothing at all because he is not going to come out and say that game was an embarassement/our players and team(which includes himself) are awful. which it was and they all were last night

Btw …that embarrassing beat down from a second rate program speaks for itself. And to those that want to sing wright state’s praise before or after the game, it is just another way of hiding how far the program has fallen. Thanks Lyons/Muller

LETS GO!!!

Geezus people, I'm totally blown away by how blown away you all are over one stinko (truly stinko) game, early in the season. I get it, we all had higher hopes, but you're runnin' Pedon out of town already? It'll get better, you'll see.
When? This year? It's not just one game. First half of SLU, first half of HPU, the entire game against Wright State. When a team is capable of playing that bad for that long, it just doesn't "get better" all of a sudden. I'm real interested to see how Evansville does this year with a first year coach compared to ISU. (Correction, he is in his 2nd year too) It's truly sad that comparison even has to be made.

If you think Wright State is a second rate program what are we? Yes, I agree that we have fallen off the map, but come on man! Let’s stick to OUR OWN problems here.

Since 2006 Weight State has 12 twenty win seasons and we have had five. That’s pretty damn good. Dude get a grip. Let’s concentrate on our own problems.

You don’t really believe this university wants to be relevant in athletics, do you?
let’s face it, we’ll never compete for a national championship , so what’s the point.
With all the changes in NCAA, and favoritism towards a few programs, the deck is stacked against us…and most others.
Our future will be much like D3 schools; small schools, playing competitively (for their level) with no chance for national recognition.
Once you accept that, you can maybe start to enjoy the experience.

I don't think anyone is expecting to compete for a national championship. But competing for a conference championship should be a realistic expectation and ISU isn't even remotely close to doing that right now.

Getting back to the tournament and competing regularly atop the conference like they did for the four years I was at ISU in the mid to late 90s would be fine with me.

About a year ago, I got blasted on this board for making a comment that ISU was not competing for a NCAA championship. I have fully accepted that and consider the season successful if we reach the NCAA or NIT. However, I have not accepted the results of the last 5 years. We should be competing at the top of a weakened MVC each year. Perennial top 40 teams in Tulsa, Creighton and Wichita State have left. Loyola had a short run and left. We keep getting worse. I have NOT given up on this year's team. I think the talent level is there to compete. I am hoping the coaching is there, but that is still an unknown for me. I expect to see different substitution patterns in the next 2 MVC games. Both games are very winnable and would change the narrative of the fan base tremendously. GO BIRDS!

Completely agree. The substitution strategy, if there is one, is baffling to me. I hope we see some signs of success in the next two games as well.

I don’t follow College ball close enough to say I know much. I never watch anything but a Bird game and yes, I’m a loyal fan who tries to watch every single minute of ISU Redbird basketball.

I’m sure of this, we are better than last years group; of course our depth and the likes of JK, Myles and Lieb address some needs.

In our 3 losses this year the opponents have each had a couple of Go To guys who were just superior to what we’ve had on the roster. Smart ball players who have superior basketball skill.

I’m confident in saying the bar for Talent has been raised across the world……..for ages I’ve stuck to my position that we simply need more court savvy guys who don’t give games away. Factual statement but not nearly enough to compete across the board. But we are better.

I think Pedon/staff do a fine job in vetting the kids we recruit - good character kids who have skill.

We must be patient and let Pedon have time to grow this program and here’s to WISHING we Land a couple of those players who can flat out get us over hump.

I’ve only posted sporadically the last few years but I religiously read the board. Should this performance bother us ? Sure, but I feel too much is being made of it.

We are still early in Coach’s second year with a lot of newcomers. I think we are going to see some games like Long Beach this year, and other like half the SLU game and the Wright State game. A game like the last one will bother me more at the end of the year than it does now.

I will judge this team by whether or not I believe we have progressed at the end of the year.

I know there are a lot of people that would say that we seem to have different excuses or reasons every year since 98. I get it to a certain extent as a fan base. I look at Pedon having gone through year 1 without mostly his players. Year 2, a lot of adjustment both in terms of new players and still trying to get to his style. I do expect to see improvement during this year but consistency might be hard with this roster. We will still be very up and down this year.

We don’t have dedicated reporter for RB basketball anymore. I think you can pretty much count on limited content for away games, and not much more for home games.

Evansville came back from a 20 pt 2nd half deficit to win to go 5-0. Led by a 6’8 NAIA transfer who scored 28. Gonna be worrisome if a 2nd year Evansville coach or worse a first year Valpo coach we didn’t want finish ahead of us. Don’t think they will but the bottom of the league has been playing pretty well.
