Where have you seen a Simpkins love-fest? Everyone hear is hopeful but wondering how good they actually are…
Semantics. Maybe not a “love-fest”, but seemingly more excitement than there should be based on who else is recruiting them (i.e. no one).
When evaluating a player keep in mind that you can be looking at a moving target. Fleming in his first year here? Not very good. His second year was noticeably better as he was finding his jump shot. It's hard to know what years 3, 4 or 5 would bring but I think he's going to be a good guard for somebody. It was the same with Paris Lee. We remember how good he was as a senior and tend to forget that he wasn't nearly as good a Fr. and Soph.
I thought Lee’s sophomore year was pretty good. Less ppg, but more steals, decent assist ratio, etc. In other words, all signs were pointing to “keeper”.

My thought is in a world of covid where every player gets 5yrs and scholarships are tight, teams probably can't afford to give up 2 scholarships to 2 guys, specifically if 1 is clearly better then the other. I am confused as to why there is nothing on them as well.
Probably a both or nothing situation.
Hoping they pan out.
Again, I have total trust in Pedon…until I don’t:)

Muller seemed to be a pretty good evaluator of talent (Not 100% I acknowledge). He struggled with taking that talent and making it into a team. I know nothing about the twins either, but I do have some hope.

I agree that PLee was showing signs of being a keeper but he was still a minimal offensive threat as a soph. Lee averaged just .228 points per minute played as a soph with a FG% of .435. Fleming averaged .266 ppm with a FG% of .466, a major increase over his .395 FG% as a freshman even though Fleming increased the % of his attempts that came from 3-pt range as a soph. Fleming has a future.

Agreed on Fleming. I wish he would stay. Is it 100% certain he’ll be gone?
I believe sometimes players entering the portal stay, right?

That's a one-sided stat as it relates to the entire team. Paris wasn't expected to score dramatically in the earlier days. But Paris was a much better overall all-around player, so no offense my friend, but stats be damned.

This is not pointed at you, Red. We've lost so much feel for the game in evaluating a player these days. A gazillion statistic-based markers, but no tech that can measure heart, or feel, or chemistry, or attitude, or coachability, or hustle, or a supportive teammate, or team player, or God-forbid...vision and IQ on the whole court. It is diluting play tremendously (in my opinion) and as a result, we have a MUCH dumber game. The transfer portal is gasoline on the fire.

Good luck HF.

The guys he was closest to are also in the portal.

I think Timmy is right (unfortunately). JMO...I could see year by year a roster churn of 50%. Maybe more. Year in. Year out. Not sustainable.

The Loyola and UNI programs...I hear what you're saying Adunk, and I agree in regards to 2 years ago...but not under today's setup.

Question. What's the likelihood of a good player staying even 3 years with a program of our stature?? ANY player, for that matter. 4 years, I think, will become as rare as a Hulka tightey-whitey change.

I would have liked for Fleming to stay, but youre not seriously comparing his potential departure to Brown and Carmichael leaving, are you?

Also, it’s a bit early to determine how positive the new culture will be. I like the hire and clearly Pedon wants his own fingerprints on this team; which means hard choices for some of those not buying into his “culture”. If so, best for them to leave.
I will say, I know nothing about this situation, but I’m 100% Pedon and whatever he is doing to get us back to being relevant.
I’m with whatever Pedon chooses to do, as well. Obviously Jackie and Tyler were stars getting All-Valley votes; nobody besides Reeves was in that class, but many still could have been useful in the transition.

I have seen a group of worse talent evaluation The last 15 years of the st louis rams thanks Stan you royal ass
It could probably be argued that they did their job correctly in achieving their end goal of moving the team.
