We've seen some posters root against the Buckeyes in the NCAAs so Coach Pedon can get in and get started fulltime. Others have hoped he goes on a run and uses his tournament success as a recruiting point. Where do you land?

Let's say your vote indicates the round you would like to see OSU eliminated.

I will say, two positives come out of a first game loss... Pedon takes over the Birds full time AND the Ramblers leave some money for The Valley on their way out.

Grew up a die-hard buckeye fan, of course I'm taking them all the way... but I'd be more than happy collecting loyola's paycheck.

Give me the money. Not sure recruits will care about a deep Ohio State run. They are being recruited for ISU and Pedon has plenty of NCAA tournament experience.

Money is great but if Loyola shares equally among conference members there is no real net gain. Win.

I will root for Loyola. Give me any money and conference recognition that comes out of it. Pedon has been with Holtmann and made the tournament the last 6 years, 7 total for Holtmann. Pedon has been an assistant for 21yrs and if he hasn't learned anything out of that with 6 straight years of NCAA tournament experience then he was the wrong guy. Get here and get started on a staff and or recruiting, imo the bread and butter of a program.

I’m torn. If he has had contact with any recruit’s (which we know he’s been in contact with the Simpkins twins coach) and Ohio St goes deep into the tournament, do the recruit’s get excited about him and want to play for him? Or do they get excited about watching Ohio State and choose to play at a higher profile team? The Loyola money would be okay, but getting good recruits into Redbird uniforms is more important to me.

Picked national championship. Would help in recruiting if you have a championship and players you have helped make the nba as a selling pitch. Granted ISU isn’t going to win a national championship but can only help in establishing that a coach is up to the task of developing your kid

Loyola forfeits any money this year to the valley. The money will help us and make the valley stronger as a whole.

Does anyone know for sure if there is a step-up in pay if you win your first game, or only if you advance to the next level (i.e., Sweet Sixteen)?

For every round you advance to outside of the championship you earn an additional unit for your conference up to 5 units for your conference. And then the conference gets paid out on this over 6 years I think.

I really don't think many care who the assistant coach is for a NCAA team.
Take the $. Go Loyola.
Start recruiting and closing some deals next week.
Pedon's response...."As soon as I announced I was leaving they started losing."
GO REDBIRDS!

Except Loyola is no longer in the Valley after this year so from the recruit's perspective, they would never compete with Loyola in the Valley. Murray State winning in the tournament this year is much more relevant from a recruit's perspective regarding assigning any credibility to the Valley.

That being said, IF Ohio State were to go to the Sweet 16, Final Four, or as I chose on what I "want", to win the National Championship, that would absolutely, positively give massive recognition and credibility to Coach Pedon when speaking with recruits. Every win they have in the tournament helps to shine a light both in terms of media attention and possible mentions of him being the next Illinois State head coach during games but also helps to provide credibility to the hope that Coach Pedon can lead us to similar success.

If our next head coach was/is an assistant with the #1 team in the country that makes the Final Four and wins the National Championship, that would by far be the best way to draw attention to top recruits that we want, as opposed to losing in the first round
He is recruiting kids to play for ISU in the Valley. Every Valley win is good for recruiting to the MVC.

Good points, but OSU is not making past the second round..so I don't think it is going to make a significant difference. I hope what makes the biggest difference is Pedon's experience working for several coaches and programs. This should give him the tools to develop his own identity and feel for what level of recruit he can secure for his ISU program.

Doug: I agree with your point of view that going to the F4 would be good for Pedon and recruiting. Since I don't that is remotely possible, I voted lose the 1st game and start with ISU!

This is one of the things that excites me about Pedon as well. He's come up through the ranks at a variety of different places and has found footing under Holtmann the last 8 years or whatever. When you come through the ranks and your lone job is as a long-time assistant under the guy that coached you, you're experience is limited to that one guy's knowledge.

Either way. If they keep winning he can text guys and say " hey I'm really interested, but right now I'm participating in the Big Dance, watch the offense II plan to run" or he can get the ball seriously rolling quickly if they lose.
