OL blocking on punts is horrible .. sliver lining, it got us a roughing the kicker to extend this drive. But got us blocked punt last time.
interesting...Line play. Both sides of the ball. QB has talent.
Might as well give Morris a shot too. He can probably handle the Power I on first down!Jefferson starts against NDSU for HOCO.
I wonder how he could have gotten last years Fresh class some experience?? A North Dakota WR was being interviewed at halftime today and stated how valuable it was for him to get on the field last Spring. Meanwhile in Normal... Also, getting beat like this will not build a program. That transfer portal is wide open. The best players won't hang around to lose. Really easy to jump to a winner now.If you listened to any of Spacks press this week, you would’ve heard a coach with little to no confidence about winning this game. He mentioned every time how teams like SIU have a lot of older guys and Mo State built through transfers where Spack is trying to “build a program” with his young team. He mentioned how he has over 60 freshman (new class and last years class that didn’t play). Average age of our players are 19 and they’re going up against a bunch of 22 year olds. These aren’t my excuses, just what the coach has said all week. He continued to lean on it in his post game interview today.
That’s fine, I understand programs have to rebuild. Just realize now that expectations should be extremely low for the remainder of the season.
I wish they put him in to give him a little taste of Division 1 football when we went down by 21. Especially with Waring struggling. That experience is important for development and for potential future injuries.Might as well give Morris a shot too. He can probably handle the Power I on first down!
So why is it when Jefferson makes mistakes the finger is pointed at him. But when Waring makes these mistakes, he’s on a “marginally talented team”?As I posted before the game, no winning season this year is possible. Good experience for next year (which I agree we could have gotten for some young players in the spring!). Waring will be good I think. He is just a freshman on a marginally talented team. He will make mistakes. No reason to get down on him. This is not remotely close to a playoff team. Spack knows it for certain. I still maintain the offensive coaching staff is not very good. Too inexperienced and in over their heads. We have been there before though. Our last set of Co-Coordinators was less than impressive. No argument what Spack has done for ISU Football but Woody Hayes had more love for the passing game than Spack (okay a slight exaggeration). Buckle up for a looooooooong and ugly season Redbird fans. Most of the tough teams are yet to come!
Jefferson was not a true freshman when he was thrust into the starting lineup and he had a very solid O-Line and a guy named J Robinson too.So why is it when Jefferson makes mistakes the finger is pointed at him. But when Waring makes these mistakes, he’s on a “marginally talented team”?
Correct. I’m talking about now, the season in hand.Jefferson was not a true freshman when he was thrust into the starting lineup and he had a very solid O-Line and a guy named J Robinson too.
You’re giving Waring a pass because the O-line and play calling is bad. As if when Jefferson is in, it’s not???Jefferson was not a true freshman when he was thrust into the starting lineup and he had a very solid O-Line and a guy named J Robinson too.
You are correct. Experience comes from playing freshmen. The RB class they have now were there with James Robinson. Their freshman year Both Browns,White, McCloyn had a total of 34 runs JR had 364 touches if that. No reason to give JR 90% of the runs when we were winning games. Let those guys touch the ball once you cross the 50 2nd/3rd/4th qt. No the last 2min of a game and you up 3 tds. You can't develop kids think they are going to sit around 3yrs. Some of that depth will hit portal especially if the team is losing. Also hurts recruiting base on how present kids are utilized. Excuses of having 60 plus kids classified as freshmen.. Other teams may not have as many but I bet some may have 40 plus and those kids in programs like NDSU makesure those kids who RS played prior to covid played 3/4 games thats where the development come into play. OC situation if you are a offensive recruit considering ISU would you not question what offensive strategy of CO-offensive coordinators mind set. RUN/PASS balance or what ? Power system, Spread, or what ? No identity/direction offense will not get talent to come to ISU or stay.I wonder how he could have gotten last years Fresh class some experience??
