Down 6, 1 time out left, 8 seconds to go, dead ball. Most coaches would at least try to force a turnover as opposed to calling off the dogs and letting them dribble it out.

Kotov hasn't impressed me at all. Seems slow and has bricks for hands.

Curious if this team wins a lot next year if everyone will still be in the fire Dan train? What would it take to change your mind?
The only way they win next year is if they catch lightning in a bottle. I want sustained growth, not lightning in a bottle.
That said, I’m ok with a step back next year (if that’s even possible) as long as we have a new, energetic, young, coach that has an actual system and the players to 100% buy into that system.
Hopefully that “system” is floor-burn U.

According to some sources out of Chicago 4 Redbirds are transferring as soon as the season is over
So that will make 5, ISU has the highest transfer rate in the country. Thanks DM the gift that keeps on giving.

Horne going to the bench helped our defense today. Birds playing with some life
Love your spot on analysis 🧐. Are you a coach? I watched the same game and didn’t see Horne going to the bench the same. But hey, you are entitled to your opinion!

Would love to see this team with a competent coach. Look at what some of the Birds who transferred have done in their new uniforms.
Can someone explain why DM sub so much! I have no idea what is going on to justify the rotation changes. Guys can clearly be HOT and then be on the bench. Am I the only one that see this?

I agree wholeheartedly with the argument of no team identity. Seriously, what will be the changes next year with Dan as coach again? I see continuation of poor passes, turnovers, lots of 3 attempts, our big guys setting picks at the top of the key, porous interior defense, poor decision making, and general lack of aggression and toughness. At this rate we would be a mid-level team in the conference featuring Augustana, Milliken, Illinois Wesleyan, etc. For those with prior playing and/or coaching experience, does anyone see improvement? We don’t recruit to a system because none exists. It’s an amalgamation of players like a pickup game at the Riverplex in Peoria.

Early in the season, we discussed the poor man defense and I hoped that the young team would improve over the season. While I gave credit to the staff for going to the zone, now that teams have had an opportunity to see it on film, it is less and less effective, yet we didn’t really modify it. When the Trees brought in 2 bigs, it appeared to be to their advantage to me, without them giving up much better shots. The Trees looked pretty suspect in ball handling category during last several minutes- with all the guards we have, could we have tried that type of pressure earlier in the game. Unfortunately, when you can’t play man defense well enough to generate turnovers and you can’t rebound because you are playing 4 guards, it’s tough to generate transition.

I said at end of last season that Dan wasn’t going anywhere soon and there was need to bring in new thinking on the staff w/respect to offensive scheme, man defense and how to utilize front court players- the staff hasn’t changed and today’s game again showed that neither have any of those problems- staff respect is an important thing, but EVERYONE should have understood that last year’s results were unacceptable and there was need for change, either in personnel or strategy. Last year, I was pretty sure that the Birds could have won more games than they did with the players they had. I’m not sure whether I can say that this year, as I don’t see the same level of player choosing the program.

Since fans(those of us that are still here), players and coaches will all suffer through another long season if nothing changes- let’s hope the staff decides to try some new offensive schemes/lineups; creates more defensive challenges for opponents and teach players how to at least shoot free throws that look good, even if they don’t go in. Fingers crossed, but the few of us that appear to still be interested are waning.

Most recent transfer, Rey Idowu! Hands down a different player at Tulsa.
They are giving him 7+ more minutes a game and he is playing with another big on the floor. I’m dont know Tulsa’s frontline coach, but Rey and Fisher both played better last year with another big on the floor. The 4 guard offense didnt(doesn’t work) with the players the Redbirds have.

Look ahead to the Bradley game. How are we going to defend guys like Childs and Henry inside, the Finnish 3 point shooter, and now they have a big Dutch guy who can make 3s. How does Wardle find these guys?
