The Penquins waddle in after putting up 45 pts in their win over So. Dakota. Earlier this season they scored 48 and 49. Obviously they have an explosive offensive. YSU tailback McLaughlin already has over a 1,000 yards and averages 7.6 ypc. It will be a real challenge for our defense but if we can hold them down and come out with the W it will be a quality win.

Do you realize that we haven't played a 50 pt. game this season? The highest combined score so far has been the 28-21 win over Valpo. This may be the game we go over. I would take a 27-24 Redbird Victory. Maybe we could even score 30!

Sorry, just had a glass of Kool-Aid, it went straight to my head and I started talking the crazy talk.

YSU defense is solid .. statistically right behind us. Thye have a super stud RB - though Spack tends to be very good preparing for one dimensional offenses .. but this guy is really good ... 7.4 ypc and leads MVFC. They don't pass great, but they're not bad either. This is a game we really need a healthy Wenkers Wright, or another RB to truly step up, to ensure a win,. YSU plays solid defense and we tend to come out stronger the first half offensively, and then usually fizzle as game progresses. But definitely to make sure their RB is mostly contained .. we've proven we can deal with one dimensional teams, so we'll see.

weather check for Normal on Saturday .. looks like rain earlier in morning, but not as much chance in afternoon. High of 58, overcast, but very windy 25-28 mph, with gusts to 35-40 mph ... going to need our run game to balance this game out on a very windy day.

Looks like they switched starting QB's mid-season, but also looks like the "original" starter still plays some. They appear tough against the run but give up some yardage in the air.

Put up 45 vs. South Dakota last week. But only beat 0-8 WIU by 1 at Macomb. In fact, scored 11 points in the last 3 minutes to beat the Leathernecks.

I can't stand the Penguins, altho not as much as when Pellini was the coach.

But Pelini was comedy gold ! He was the inevitable train wreck everyone was watching and waiting to happen, just to say they saw him explode.

I've never been a fan of Pelini and I wasn't all that impressed by his performances at Nebraska and YSU but if you look at what those two schools have done since he left, he actually looks pretty good.

The wind will be a factor in passing game and it could keep the score down. We'll need to rely on shorter passes which is what we focus on anyway. We need someone to take a short pass and make someone miss (Carr) or drag them downfield (Taula) and turn a short pass into a big gain.

Its a good point about Annexstad being very effective in short-mid pass game. YSU fans on AGS don't think a lot of their QB playing against better defenses .. and they do platoon, which is nothing new for YSU. So with low confidence in their own QBs playing against a tougher defense with bad winds ... these factors all combined are starting to make me feel better about our chances even without Wright .. but we still need Wright.

Anyone hear any word on Wright being ready or not ?

Due to the wind and most likely rain tomorrow - looks like there will be no Tents tomorrow and most people I know have canceled their Tailgate. We have moved ours to my garage. I am not dealing with the wind and rain. We still go to the game, but Tailgating at home.

Whaaaaaaaaaat??? Cancelling the tailgates??? Are we not men??

Well, the MadBird express intends to fly down I-39 one way or the other tomorrow morning and set up under the water tower and proceed as usual (I will cancel the Redbird and beer mug flag pole however). Following National Weather Service forecast and bringing the sunglasses:

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am, then a slight chance of showers between 10am and noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 49 by 4pm. Windy, with a southwest wind 23 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

For shits and giggles, I watched the NDSU-YSU game. NDSU ran the hell out of the ball. They ate a ton of clock and kept their defense off the field. And when their run didn't work they ran it some more. I looked at the stats and it was a 46 to18 run/pass ratio. That's the ticket. Run the skin of the pig, stop the run, pressure the quarterback. The end.
