Well, listening to the 5:30 news cast this morning while getting ready for work - no mention in the beginning, Ok. Then in the Sports segment - they not only did not play any highlights of the broadcast, but did not even mention the score. So much for being the Flagship station of ISU Sports. The lead story in Sports was the Blues winning in OT over the Sharks - which is nice, then a mention of the ISU women's team playing Drake tonight. That was it.

Things have certainly changed over there...

Part of the change in format as far as coverage of the game is the partnership with Learfield. You have to use their canned pre and postgame. Formally, the pregame show would feature an interview from a rep from the opposing team, whatever assistant coach had the scout, and the head coach. The postgame would have player and coach interviews as well as an in-studio presence.

Partially due to budget, they don't host a postgame (call-in) show like they had in the past. Interest of the decision makers of the station seems to play a role as well.

The station as a whole is only live during coaches shows, games, from like 6A-10A and again from 2P-6P. Anything outside of those hours is canned (syndicated) programming, NFL game (I believe they no longer have their partnership with the Bears network-they just have whatever game Westwood One gives them) or Cardinals games. Like I said, budget definitely plays a role, which is unfortunate. It's been trending this way for years, but the station seems to feel the more automation, the better (cheaper). Which is tough when your tagline is "The Voice of Central Illinois."

So they're the 'robo-voice' of Central Illinois . . .
