Even if its a "Utah guy" it could be someone he met in conference or otherwise through those years not actually be a current guy. I know the Collins are out, but I wouldn't mind some input from Doug
Seems Doug would like NW Assistant Brian James to be considered.

His resume reeks of Collins ( not that there's anything wrong with that)

Brian James, Rob Judson, and Tom Richardson are amazing coaches. As is/was Coach Muller.

The game and landscape has changed. I joked a few weeks back of KS being a "dream" reunion for our program (can Greenspan come back too?). Much went on back then. There's no way much of that would fly anymore. Add to it, the turnstile of portal stuff almost demands either a younger or primarily recruiting-first coach, but that can run a steady ship (sounds like who we just fired, but...).

I'm supposing Powell and Frazier check those boxes. Prohm, I don't see that exciting anyone here or in our recruiting triangle. During lunch at a professional development meeting I ran into a fellow Redbird Alumn and she mentioned the Ray Giacolleti ISU-Utah resume entries. All I said was "Drake didn't pan out." to dismiss the Utes connections. Krystowiak seems like a non-starter.

Lusk or Lowery. Old and failed.

Seriously, would Dennis Gates say no if we could offer something competitive?

Out-loud thinking. Let the mean guys destroy...

Should at least take a swing at a former big P5 head coach that currently is not coaching and wants to get back in the game. Someone that has perhaps retired too early, banked the big money, and still would enjoy coaching without the big P5 pressure.

James is a tremendous coach! I wanted him after Jank. He's 66 though. Hasn't been a head coach, except for high school. He would be a stop gap guy (4-6 years) at most.

I'm pretty sure ISU would owe Cleveland State $600,000 to hire him this year. Gates has a buyout clause.

And he’s paid like $400k per year. It’s just not realistic. We can’t give him enough of a raise and pay his buyout.

Good intel on Gates. I did not go deep enough to see he was that locked up.

I don't know if it's just been the dead horse being beaten, but can we agree the favorite has been Powell, Jr. since jump?

That'd be great. Few turns 60 next year. Couldn't he ride that out and take over the 'Zags?

Frazier might be safer to stick. Not sure if he's ready or if it would create the same buzz some on here really want.

I still like Oliver (not really a "native son, but probably still has keys @ RA)

Dane Fife would be interesting, but not enough spice to get the Chicago pipeline going again.

Surprised Paris Parham's name hasn't come up.

I still don't count out Yak.

Ohio State's Ryan Bedon

I don't know enough about Brantley, except his bio (other than a sniff in Spain) is VERY all-Purdue. Might be a lifer there.

Again, please no Lusk or Lowery.

Brian Michaelson would get the Zags job before Powell. He’s the lead assistant, a grad and he’s been with the staff much Ionger than Powell.

And I wouldn’t think Few is going anywhere for a while.

Brian Michaelson is in his ninth season as an assistant coach after serving five seasons as in other capacities with the Gonzaga men's basketball program. Michaelson was a natural fit for head coach Mark Few's staff to take over for departed assistant coach Ray Giacoletti in July 2013.
