The one thing I have found on this board is this....Most of the time the people who comment on a topic have no idea what is really happening. It has sure been that way with recruiting. I would think the coaching search would be even more tight lipped. I hope the strong feeling for RP Jr is accurate.

RP Jr would definitely be a trip for me, and a good one. A large portion of my family are UOfI grads, and so I was raised and Illini fan and remember cheering my head off when they made that run in 05 with RPjr. I'd be very pleased to see him coaching my Birds!

Well, hiring RP jr would b 1 way to get U of I fans to pay some attention to the Redbirds I guess - makes no dif to me but if we won under his leadership they’d love to take some credit. 😉

Think so? I don’t think his name has the same drawl as a Dee Brown or Deron Williams… he was solid role player on a beloved team.

Gonzaga has brought in some high profile recruits recently- were any of them his recruits?

This is what I would like to know, what has Powell really done at Gonzaga? And I believe he spent time at Valpo? What did he do when he was there? Also, recruiting at Gonzaga is just slightly different than ISU….

Brian Michaelson has been the lead assistant since Tommy Lloyd left to Arizona.

He was under Bryce Drew at Valpo and then followed him to Vandy as the Associate HC, before joining Few at Gonzaga as an assistant in 2019. I'm not seeing anything on what his specialty has been.

That’s going to be every assistant. You are taking a huge craps game shot on an assistant. That’s for programs that have little money. What had Rob Judson done? I heard his name earlier on here regarding when Muller was hired. He just had a proven track record of mediocrity!

For the most part I agree with you. I want an established HC (not named Gregg) to be our next coach, but if it is going to be an assistant, one who has been under a top tier coach like Few (and Scott Drew) is what I'd be looking for.

The new Arizona coach worked for Few. He's doing alright.

Hopefully we wouldn't be expected to be their minor league pool.

No matter who ends up being the next head coach, I'd like to see a real interview and selection process play out, even if done relatively quickly, instead of an overnight, pre-determined decision with window dressing added to sell it as a real process. The field of potential candidates could be fairly strong if Brennan plays his cards right and gets out in front of most other schools that will be experiencing turnover in the weeks to come. By pulling the trigger when he did, that might be an encouraging indication such a strategy is at least part of his thinking.
