It would be painful at 1st but worth it in the long run.
Conference home and home games opponents
Southern Miss
New Mexico state
Sam Houston State
FAU
Louisiana Tech
UAB
UTEP
Charlotte
Old Dominion

If ISU joined the AAC...( based on teams currently in the conference)
Conference home-and-home games opponents
UConn
Temple
Houston
SMU
USF
UCF
Wichita State
Tulsa
Memphis.

All the other sports programs would be highly competitive and would have a chance for a championship from the start in either conference

The American Athletic Conference announced the addition of six new universities — Florida Atlantic University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of North Texas, University of Texas at San Antonio, Rice University and University of Alabama at Birmingham — to the conference on Thursday.

The six universities will join the nine continuing members – East Carolina, Memphis, Navy (football only), South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State (basketball and Olympic sports only) — to bring The American’s membership to 15 schools. The American will compete as a 14-team league in football and in men’s and women’s basketball, among other sports.

The timeline for the arrivals of the six new schools – all from Conference USA – is yet to be finalized, although it is likely to occur in 2023 and 2024.

Best decision they could make. Pedon would kill that conference. Illinois State would be near the top in football within 3 years if they get a new coach...honestly, just don't like Spack's age for this transition. The current stadium would have to add 3,000 seats just to be FBS ready but they would need a stadium to be built for the future and that is the biggest hick-up, I believe. A $300-M shortage in funds lol. Put the endowment in Bitcoin, baby!

It's not happening anyways. They'd need like 500m. So until we get a very rich donor or a very rich sponsor, it's a dream

What is the point of adding 3,000 empty seats? We don't fill what we have now and none of these potential schools will help us draw extra people after the immediate newness wears off. Stop trying to make us something we are not! We should focus on improving what we are now!
