Huge test for the Birds this week. After suffering a 3 game sweep to Evansville, ISU has fallen into a 4-way tie for 2nd. That's not terrible but the issue is that ISU has racked up all of their conference wins against 8th-10th place. Lots of games against the better teams in the league to go. It all starts with the top dogs in the Sycamores. This is certainly the biggest home series of the season, circumstances aside. A sweep would bring us into a tie for 1st place. Certainly can't afford to be swept again. Earning a top 4 seed is critical moving into the tournament. Need to win 1 game. 2 wins would be a huge momentum swing. Should be some great crowds this weekend and decent weather too. I am hoping to make it out Friday and Saturday. Stuff the Duff is on Saturday.
With all that in mind, the Redbirds have some business to take care of Tuesday night in St. Charles. The Lions are 12-23 on the season. They have losses to SLU, Murray State (x3), SIU (x2), EIU, Little Rock (x2), and SIUE (x2). They also have wins against Bradley (x3), Little Rock, and SIUE.
Indiana State are the MVC favorites after winning an NCAA regional last year. Expect there to be more scouts than usual. Indiana State is 27-7 (10-2) and still on the outside of the top 25. They have swept Bradley and UIC while taking 2 of 3 from Murray State and Missouri State. They lost to Vanderbilt but are a combined 4-1 on the season against Illinois, Purdue, and Indiana.
