Huge test for the Birds this week. After suffering a 3 game sweep to Evansville, ISU has fallen into a 4-way tie for 2nd. That's not terrible but the issue is that ISU has racked up all of their conference wins against 8th-10th place. Lots of games against the better teams in the league to go. It all starts with the top dogs in the Sycamores. This is certainly the biggest home series of the season, circumstances aside. A sweep would bring us into a tie for 1st place. Certainly can't afford to be swept again. Earning a top 4 seed is critical moving into the tournament. Need to win 1 game. 2 wins would be a huge momentum swing. Should be some great crowds this weekend and decent weather too. I am hoping to make it out Friday and Saturday. Stuff the Duff is on Saturday.

With all that in mind, the Redbirds have some business to take care of Tuesday night in St. Charles. The Lions are 12-23 on the season. They have losses to SLU, Murray State (x3), SIU (x2), EIU, Little Rock (x2), and SIUE (x2). They also have wins against Bradley (x3), Little Rock, and SIUE.

Indiana State are the MVC favorites after winning an NCAA regional last year. Expect there to be more scouts than usual. Indiana State is 27-7 (10-2) and still on the outside of the top 25. They have swept Bradley and UIC while taking 2 of 3 from Murray State and Missouri State. They lost to Vanderbilt but are a combined 4-1 on the season against Illinois, Purdue, and Indiana.

4/16 @ Lindenwood (Monke) - 5 pm - no stream
4/19 vs Indiana State (Mabee) - 5 pm - ESPN+
4/20 vs Indiana State (Chadwick) - 3 pm - ESPN+
4/21 vs Indiana State (Perry) - 1 pm - ESPN+

Really need to pick this one up today and get back on track. The series @UE was a nightmare. Can't be going into a big homestand against Indy St reeling. Today is pretty much a must-win at LU. Weekend should be fun, looking forward to being there on Saturday. First thing's first. Get a W tonight.

WOW! What a win. Probably the best Redbird game I've ever seen in person. I thought Holms did a great job managing the game. Mabee was great aside from the 4th inning - allowing 3 HRs. The relief pitchers did fantastic. I was annoyed with Husak last week but he was lights out tonight. The Sycamores were lefty heavy from the mound tonight and I felt like it was bothering our stacked lineup of lefties. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th and a runner on 3rd down by 1 run, Holms pinch hit Kubo for Nichols and he came through with a huge infield single into the hole.

It was well managed game but in the end, it was the Daniel Pacella game. Pacella made the catch of his life in left field to save a triple in the top half of the 8th. He got roughed up pretty good but stayed in the game. In the bottom of the ninth with the game tied and 2 strikes, he sent one out over the wall in right. Just an unbelievable performance from Pacella. Oh and Indiana State is ranked #25 in the USA Today poll (I usually go by D1baseball.com). Heck of a game. Great day to be a Redbird. Let's knock them off again tomorrow. Big time game for Stuff the Duff.

Really tough start for Chadwick. Just could not find the strike zone, especially in the first inning. In total, the staff walked 8 and hit 3 batters. Offensively, we threatened a few times in the early going but could not get a timely base hit when we needed to. A couple of great plays by the Sycamore outfield and hard hit balls at defenders made for a frustrating afternoon. Redbirds can still make a huge statement tomorrow with a series victory.

A great W on Friday erased by back to back drubbings. Saturday was rough. Was about to be a fun game to be at, but you can't be giving up bases like that all day, especially to a team that good.
