It IS early and Pedon may be the next Stallings or Donewald but man this is disappointing. You bring 5 new guys and no bigs where our weakness clearly was. Right now this team is worse than last year. The had more offensive rebounds than we had defensive? Completely unacceptable, I’m sure we were tired but they had a less than 16 hour turnaround

Yeah, there was another one where Sandage was on the ground and the URI player was going up for an offensive rebound and landed on him and Sandage got called. Shot two FT to their nine. 12 fouls for the Birds, 5 for URI.

2 fouls for Lewis, Poindexter, Kasubke, Knight, and Sandage.

Pretty solid defensive effort, but man, the offense remains nowhere to be found.

A positive: Only four turnovers and I believe just two of them were the Birds just throwing the ball out of bounds, I'd call that extreme progress since Monday.
The offense isn't there because the skill/talent isn't there. It will never be found with this roster. Fire up the portal. Keep the roster turn over going until it works.

But I was told to be patient and it’s just year one. With the portal other first year guys have turned over rosters and aren’t even close to this bad.

I understand the rebuild and everything. How does Pedon do anything to motivate the fan base? Doing everything right off the court means nothing when you are the worst team in the MVC by a mile.
The fan base will not return until there is a 20+ win team and that still may not be good enough to get folks back.

Agree 100%. Look at Murray State. Prohm gets fired. Sits out a year and still pulls a better roster. A WAY better roster. I understand he has prior success.

Especially for a guy whose offense he wants to run through the post. He talked about it in his first presser. I mean in 2022 basketball, post players are few and far between and are less important....unless you want to run your offense through the post. Then you better damn well have one.

Unfortunately he is not an outside player either.
He has the potential to a unicorn and just completely change an offense. Be that special of the player. A MVC version of Kevin Durant. He just hasn’t actually done it for more than one sporadic play.

Lost a lot of rebounds with Chatam and Fleming gone and the only true post player.

I miss Howie and thought he could be special. His stats this year aren’t anything noteworthy through 3 games. 4,2,2 <30% from the field.

Same team result different coach. No discipline, selfish play and might as well just put not put any big men in and just shoot shoot 3's and pray for rain.

I'd just say the biggest difference is that Prohm has years of experience as a D1 HC. Moving over a seat changes the way you see the game. My expectations for wins this season were and remain very low. I want to see a team compete, care, and give effort. I'd say to this point, they've done that more times than not (like 55%). The talent just really doesn't seem to be there.

You know what they say, "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Work hard for 40 minutes and they'll be able to be in a lot of games. They haven't put 40 minutes together yet. There will be games where the Birds play their tails off and other team is just has more talent. LSU is the perfect example. Birds could've played hard all 40 minutes and still lost by 10. That's the nature of the beast.

Next year's roster will look different. Hopefully, the portal will be kind to supplement some pieces. I'd be interested in getting more guys that were lower role players at the P6 level versus starters from what many would say are "lower D1s."

If I had to guess, they'll be filling at least 4 scholarships when spring rolls around. I hope its not too much more because that's when you get back to the "these guys haven't played together" thing we hear all about.

That said, it feels like this team will be playing better in January than they are now. Will that translate to wins? Time will tell.

Our 2 pt shooting is our downfall 6 for 27 for 22.2% and allowing 19 offensive rebounds

I"m noticing a pattern of 222s lately. I've always been someone that notices numerical patterns and looks for signs. Your screen name is Redbird222, we shoot 22.2% from 2, we score 22 points in the first half and 22 in the second half.

Not sure what all of this means but it must be a sign of something

That's why I mentioned 19 offensive rebounds but I still couldn't throw you off

222 better than 666

As a player...I HATED morning games. Not an excuse for our 3 game TPGuy extravaganza.
