Didn't want to start a separate thread for this, but just wanted to propose something to see what others thought. What if we had a gymnasium for volleyball specifically? I have looked at a few other volleyball facilities around the country (Murray State, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Illinois) and I think having its own dedicated space could make for a really cool atmosphere. I doubt it would ever happen, but I do like to dream about where we can make advancements and improvements.
Evansville has a facility for women's basketball and volleyball (probably was a necessity due to not owning the Ford Center). They use Taraflex flooring for volleyball. It is newly renovated and seems pretty nice from the pictures. I think we could do just as well if not better.
I think something around 1,500 seats with 2 nice video boards would be perfect.
RBA does do well for volleyball and is a nice facility, but I think it would be an awesome investment into probably our highest demand women's sport. These schools I mentioned have nice courts specifically designed for volleyball instead of the blue tape that is used at RBA. Also, Purdue has a shock absorbing court designed for volleyball.
Lastly, from what I have seen, a lot of these schools have renovated old facilities for volleyball use. I don't think that would be a good idea with Horton even with the new IPF, but was worth mentioning.
Is something like this economically feasible at this moment? Probably not, but maybe something to consider 5 years down the road. I am excited about the volleyball program and hope to see it grow and continue its success into the future. Next step is building the MVC volleyball equivalent to Missouri State Women's basketball (consistently ranked in the top 25 with a sweet 16 in consecutive seasons).
