Pretty good plan, in three phases including replacing the dome roof. Said they have 10 of the 20 mil raised for phase 1 with phase 2 costing another 20 mil and the last phase costing 10 mil.

I did not know the dome opened up in 1976! I have to give the UNI folks a thumbs up for having quite a vision toward the future and investing in themselves. I left ISU in 1974, just two years before the dome opened up and the state of ISU athletic facilities at that time was pretty low. Horton was the center of everything and anyone who attended events there knows well the deficiencies of Horton. The High School bleachers still adorned the visitor side of Hancock Field and they would remain there until the renovation not that many years ago. I look at the handwringing to just get an indoor practice facility for the Redbird athletes. The story says that UniDome generates $17 million a year in revenue. I don't know if that is true or not but I have no reason to doubt it either. Maybe their alumni have deeper pockets than a former Teacher's College, I don't know. I do know that as I was reading the story I was very impressed with the UNI program.

I had to chuckle a bit. UNI opens a domed stadium in 1976 and 46 years later ISU is working on putting up a bubble! And the bubble project was only after years of consternation! ISU athletics is right on the cutting edge! This was just a little tongue-in-cheek observation. Don't cancel me, please! ;)

I did look up the Panther's overall record in the Uni Dome. Heading into the 2021 season they were 221-59-1 since they started playing in the dome according to Wikipedia (Wikipedia is not always reliable). That is a pretty good record! Also, it makes a win at the dome a little more significant. Nice job last week Redbirds!

Outstanding for them.

Reading that article does bring up something that I think about every time I see or walk into Redbird Arena. That roof is way past it's original 25 yr anticipated shelf life, and she won't be cheap to replace. Multi-millions. Hulka we're gonna need that money tree you planted in your front yard.

Don't worry they have a backup plan in Horton that is being tested on December 10

It is estimated the UNI-Dome generates $17 million annually in economic impact to the Cedar Valley. Buying gas, stopping to eat, hotel stays, etc. Lots of non UNI events held at the Dome too.

I grew up about 90 minutes from Cedar Falls. My first year of college, 1975, I went to the local JC. I had a buddy who played on the football team at our JC. A few of us went over to CF to watch him play against the UNI freshmen/JV squad. I could see the UNI Dome being built in the distance and it opened the next fall.
I have seen college and high school football games there and have watched our birds play basketball in the Dome. That was a strange play to see a college basketball game.
The UNI Dome hosts all of the state semi-finals and finals for high school football.
I know they also host some big farm show there during the winter.

The key is it being a dome. The economic impact beyond athletics is outsized compared to an open-air venue - especially in Frostbite Falls. That said, football is supposed to be played in the elements; may the Northwesterly Hancock Howlers blow fiercely forever.

I’m about to take my first shower with A bar of Hoppy Brown Ale Hulka Bath! Give his daughter a year tops - and a few tanks of our beer - and we’ll have a new roof for our circus tent in no time!

Is that soap, or is it mud from Hulka's driveway? Looks good for a facial! Although The Hoppy Hulka Bath sounds, well, titillating.😲

All kidding aside congrats on new products!!!
