No two classes are the same of course but I think back to Stallings first full recruiting class with Jamar Smiley, Dan Muller, Rob Gibbons, Rico Hill, etc. Not to compare but think of John, Ty and Chase filling similar roles as Jamar, Dan and Rob with the understanding their styles of play and attributes will be different of course. Curious where another version of Rico might be.
Rico was not part of that first full class. He was in the 2nd.

Here is a person a year younger (like Rico was) that we are recruiting. He had 11 points 12 rebounds and 5 blocks in the Holiday champioship game against Proviso East

What was the complete first class? Dan, Jamar, Skip, Rob, then possibly David Cason as a Juco or was David the year before? My recollection is a little off

Cason and Larkio were the year prior. I don't know if Stalling recruited them or Bender did and they joined Stallings first year. I believe Maurice Trotter played in Mullers first year. I believe Watkins was in that first class and sat out as a prop 48

Kenny Wright was also recruited by Stallings. He sat the first year due to transferring and played with Mullers class. Technically recruited the year prior though

Of course, LeRoy was awesome, great guy! I'm pretty sure Stallings brought in Cason (Juco) and Larkio (as a freshman) mid-summer prior to his first year.

I was off on a few things though, forgot that Rob Gibbons came in a year before as a redshirt freshman and Kenneth Pierson was part of that freshman class. Mo Trotter was in that class as a Juco transfer

Rico was the year after Jamar, et al. Le Roy was with Jamar.

That’s right! Great call. Wright was at Miami OH and transferred in

I’ve watched Pence a few times and something I didn’t realize was how good of a shooter he was. He can really stroke the 3 ball. He will be very difficult to guard with his ability to shoot, drive and score/kick out, or post up. He shoots free throws extremely well too. What a DUDE we have coming in.

Would add to that impressed with how well he rebounds the ball. Think he had 13 or so one game in the holiday classic. Team player too. If he needs to take over he does, but definitely seems to be a team oriented player.

Absolutely! A part of his game that is hard to see on highlight tapes is that he understands the flow and lets the game come to him. To your point, he can take over but isn't afraid to ride the hot hand. In The Classic, I believe against Rockford Lutheran, one of his teammates was hot in the first half and Ty kept feeding him. If memory serves the teammate ended with 25 and Ty was right around 30. That game perfectly exemplified his game. Fed his teammates in the first, took over in the second.

Another improvement from last year to this year is shot selection. From what I saw last year, there were a decent amount of ill-advised, bad shots. This year, it seems he's been more purposeful about what shots he's taking, leading to more efficient scoring. He is a good three point shooter. When you watch his shot, you see sound fundamentals- feet set, square to the basket, elbow in. Every shot looks good out of his hand.

Hopeful that Ty is ready to come in and compete, because the opportunity will be there from day 1.

Hopefully Ty makes it to campus. We don't have great luck with that....

While there is never any guarantee, I feel more comfortable with Ty than any other recruit I can think of based on the fact that both of his parents are ISU grads, his sister is a softball player at ISU and his girlfriend is also an incoming freshman next year that will be playing softball. Ty has deep roots at ISU, moreso than any recruit that I can remember, in any sport at ISU in the past.

If there would be any recruits to be concerned about (which I'm personally not), it would be John Kinzinger and especially Chase Walker, if either of them have breakthrough stats this year which catches the eye, in John's case of a Wisconsin or Marquette, or with Chase, an Ohio State or Dayton which would allow them to stay closer to home.

There will always be these risks in today's environment with the easy ability to get out of an LOI and of course the transfer portal. The hope is that Pedon is investing time not just to identify talent but also kids that may not be as presupposed to want to transfer or back out of a commitment.
