I'm still not a fan, but have some sort of conflicting underlying feelings.

If the coach leaves, I have no problem with the players being allowed to transfer. To me, that should be the "one time exception" to sitting out. Otherwise should have to sit a year.

BUT, I also think all sports/athletes should have the same transfer rules. So, if the NCAA, or whoever's running things, says golf or track or swimming can transfer w/o sitting out, then I don't see why football, hoops, etc. shouldn't be able to do it. One rule for all sports.

The number on the kids who don't get a satisfactory destination after entering the portal, I think, is gonna settle things down in a year or two, once we get past the Covid year, etc. Our good kids are still gonna transfer, a lot of them have over the years, more this century than last as society in general has become less "loyal", more immediate satisfaction, less patient, etc. But we're gonna get those kids who didn't pan out higher up, and we have done that quite a bit over the years.

But the portal's a mess. And that doesn't even start to deal with the NIL. All of that, geez. What I can say is I'm glad I have developed a DIII school to follow, even tho the one I'm following is not really you little college down the street. Still a better feeling that the kids are there for the long haul. St. John's did lose a grad transfer to Montana St. this year tho, an All-American receiver, who could've come back for his Covid year. A drag. But that's just one guy and they got an ex-Bison coming in.

I hate NIL for student-athletes ... way more bad than good, that will reveal itself more and more over time.

This will be viewed as one of the biggest mistakes in college athletics.

They deserved to get paid for being in commercials or ads or selling jerseys and such. I do believe that.

But what is happening is way beyond that.

Totally agree with latter statement.

But not even sure they should be doing commercials/ads at all, much less being paid for it. All of the NIL from the college or NCAA would be moot point, if they just didn't do it beyond normal promotional highlights for the game season which may show several players highlights. The college football success exists because of the colleges, not because of the individual athlete .. other than the extremely rare Larry Bird ISUb situation.

I like the COA funding option, even if it favors bigger programs .. I say, oh well .. free market. Beyond that, my solution for putting "some spending money" in the players hands is a regulated work-study program. And hours would be doled out on a needs-based approach. idea being .. you bring in an 18 year old kid from 2,000 miles away, possibly from a family with limited means .. that kid/family needs some money for simple things because the kid is going to be too busy to work between studies and their sport. Simple things like being able to fly home for holidays, or pay for basic things like car repairs/gas, or clothes or going out to lunch. Just enough hours per week to keep the kid from being tempted to make money other ways because he/she has little to no money.

Beyond that, it is bound to make things worse .. let them focus on classes and their sport.

Two Minnesota wide receivers and a DB entered the portal:

6'3 225 lb. Jonathan Mann, from Rosemount MN. Has not seen game action in 2 years on the squad. Says he has 4 years of eligibility left. Had decent HS stats, and says he ran a 4.32 40.

And, wait for it . . . . .Brock ANNEXSTAD, 6'2, 205 lb. Primary punt returner for the Gophers. Looks like pretty thin experience at WR. Obviously, brother of Zack. Also played at IMG Academy.

Also DB Solomon Brown, from Largo, FL. 3-star recruit, 3 years eligibility remaining it looks lie.

A few geniuses on the Gopher board think WR Annexstad will head here.

Come on Brock ... your family and friends can all come and watch you both at same time.

Plus we can always use a good punt returner .. and our WR group is the thinnest it has been of the Spack era.

Come on down ... the weather is way less crappy here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This should be a pretty big addition to the secondary. 1st team all-ASUN for Central Arkansas last year. Initially committed to Campbell in February before de-committing at some point. Had offers from Eastern Kentucky, SEMO, Austin Peay, Northwestern State, Towson, UIW, Abilene Christian, Texas Southern, Houston Baptist, Northern Arizona, Stephen F. Austin, WCU, Valdosta State, and possibly Marshall.

Niceeeee .... so the door does swing both ways sometimes !!

Welcome to all ... this fall is shaping up to be a promising one. Our defense has already been rebuilt from all the 2019 losses to FBS portal. and graduations. We've got RBs for sure, and OL for most part. Just needed an OC .. check ! A QB ... check ! And some WRs ... in process.

Starting to feel like a quarterfinal playoff run again this year. Let's try to get that bubble built for December !!!!

Sy played Safety and also lined up at slot corner. He came off the edge a lot. He's good at it. BG ran a lot of inverted Cover 2. I ran it when my corners tackled for shit. Safeties come up hard and corners drop to 2 deep. Sy played that well. He's a good football player and can tackle. Timmy is very happy about this get. He's a smart, seasoned football player and didn't come here to sit.

How does Timmy know that Timmy is very happy about this get?
Can he get inside Timmy's head?

Dabney had offers from EKU, WIU, and Marshall. Has 2 years of eligbility. Appears he played Safety at BG.

One or more former Redbird coaches spent some time at Bowling Green a few years ago, if I recall. Was it Schoonover? Or Conard?

Think there was a coaching connection to this commit?

Jake Schoonover was at Bowling Green for 3 seasons from 2018 - 2020, during that same time period when Sy Dabney arrived at Bowling Green.

Jim Garrison : Can he get inside Timmy's head ?

David Ferrie : Oh man, why don't you f-ckin' stop it? Sh-t, this is too f-ckin' big for you, you know that? Can he get inside Timmy's head, f-ck man! It's a mystery! It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma! F-ckin' Timmy don't even know! Don't you get it?

sorry folks ... this off-season is clearly starting to drag for fourthandshort ..... my symptoms get worse when we don't make playoffs the prior year.

p.s. classic Oliver Stone/JFK movie scene with Joe Pesci playing David Ferrie .. for you kids out there

Interesting, he just entered the portal. He needs a waiver to play next season or he sits out.

Not unexpected. He was benched last season and ended up QB 2. Nothing changed in the spring so he is looking to move on. I can't say this is surprising at all.
