And so, just to use this guy as an example -- I have no idea how good he is or anything.

But "we" fret about the portal and losing guys, and we lost Rutkiewicz to MAC NIU, who had about 30 career receptions for us. And we get, in return, Buckner from MAC Ohio U, who had about 30 career receptions for them.

We lose Bryce Jefferson to DII Indianapolis, and we receive Zack Annexstad from FBS Minnesota.

The portal giveth, the portal taketh away. Please give Ridgeway back tho, please? ;)

Tracy is a former 3 star who saw limited action in 3 seasons (one redshirt) with the Hoosiers (one career tackle). Went to same high school as Bryce Jefferson. I believe he has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Hoosiers have been pretty good to ISU football in the transfer portal. In the class of 2019 Tracy was rated the #61 corner in the country according to rivals.

Some thought we needed taller receivers which Jerome isn't at 5'8". How does his 4.2 speed stack up with past Bird receivers?

I'm really reaching back in the memory banks here, but I seem to remember a transfer, from Eastern Mich maybe?, who also ran track and who eventually dropped football for track only. Possible he ran that fast? Can I remember the name? No. Not that long ago tho, 10 years maybe?

Edit:
Memory banks are really not in good shape - 10 years was really only 4-5!! And seems to have started here and not a transfer, altho he is from Michigan. The guy I was thinking of was Kentre Patterson, who was a FR in 2017 and played part of 2018, and ran track as a hurdler. He ended up at Arizona State and looks to have done pretty well for himself. Someone can decipher the speed marks and decide if he might have been able to post a 4.2.

Two of the three are from Purdue and that raises an interesting question. Has Coach Spack ever brought in a transfer from Purdue?
Monnot made Purdue's 2 deep at guard and Saunders is up to 235. I'd love to have either/both of those guys.

Illinois TE Daniel Barker has declared for the NFL Draft.

On the same day his former OC is hired by ISU he enters the transfer portal.

A man can hope.

Losses feel like they are starting to pile up. Let me know if I missed anyone.

How does our list compare to rest of Valley? Looks like mostly definitive moves up (SMU/NIU) or down (DII) a level.

I’m surprised at some of the names leaving on the defensive side, given how solid they were last year, but I guess everyone has their reasons.

I also wonder if some dip their toes in the water, then decide to return. Portal can get crowded and there are only so many musical chairs. Would Spack take them back - a la Muller with Chatman?

Come in off the ledge Dmills ;)

Yes, that list shows a number of losses, but "real" contributors, well, Reid, Simon, Brown, Peyton. I'll give Jefferson his due, but he's going to DII and got moved out of his starting job. Edgar and Rutkiewicz had their days, but . . .

Look at the incoming, an FBS transfer to replace Edgar and Rutkiewicz at WR, and JC starting OL from a team that played for the national championship. FBS DB transfer to plug in for Iverson and Brown, and a QB with Big 10 starting experience.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Plus, possible some come back (Zeke Vandenburgh did last time).

And if I recall, Zeke was pretty down on Redbird Football for awhile when he put himself in the portal. He came back and had a fantastic season.
