Is it just me or does "Transfer Portal" sound like the title of a B sci-fi movie or TV episode?

"You are traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. Your next stop, a college athletic program that will appreciate your skill set!"

uh ... hmmm .... we can agree , it's been a really long offseason ???

Ok I see how it is. You dismiss me as a quack. You're on THEIR side now. You used to enjoy a good conspiracy theory (fact) but now you've become on the THEM. "Don't ask questions, believe what you're told, ignore that person behind the curtain."

Sure it just happens. One day you're an outside linebacker playing for Maryland and the next thing you know you're on the left coast playing for UCLA. Do you think this explosion of transfers is just an accident? Do you think it just happens on its own? How naïve are you!!??

Some say Russian interference is behind it but others say Maduro of Venezuela. Still others point to Patty V or Bobcat Goldthwait. The truth is that it could be any one of them or all of them working together. It's Invasion of the Body Snatchers among collegiate athletes. It's certainly sinister and perhaps deadly. Trust no one, fourthandshort in particular.

If we stick together and form the resistance we still have a chance. Last I heard James Robinson was returning for his senior year but Michigan wants him. Where will it all end? We just don't know.

While looking inside the transfer portal (don't fall in) we can see how much things have changed. Transferring has increased and it's not just 3rd string players dropping down to the lower FBS or FCS.
High major programs are taking high level players...….. from other high majors.

Ohio St. is taking 5* QB Justin Fields from Georgia

Oklahoma is taking 4* QB Jalen Hurts from Alabama where he was once the starter

and North Dakota St. has thrived on HS QB's but even they feel the need to dip into the transfer market to improve the competition at their QB position. The Bison are taking 3* QB Zeb Noland from Iowa St.

It's crazy. Some kids will play for 4 schools in 4 years. A logo on the helmet won't be enough. Every college will have to put the school name on the front of the jersey. That way when a player makes a great play they can look down at their shirt and see who they are playing for this year.

This is pretty cool for players to help market themselves if things are not working out at their current school. I'm all for player fulfilling their commitment to a school, but like anything .. it is 2 way street and sometimes it just makes sense to move on. A player could do everything that is asked of him, but ultimately the coaches are going to keep recruiting at that position and a better one could come along or develop faster. People can swtich schools if they aren't happy with their campus experience or decide to change majors .. or just a personal matter that night require they move back home and commute to a local college .. or you simply want to play sooner. Most college athletes were stars on their HS teams .. they thrive on playing in games. Nothing wrong with wanting that experience.

That all said .. pick a school for many reasons .. just in case something doesn't quite work out. Sticking it out is also admirable.

But yes TR, this is cool website I hadn't seen before - thanks for posting it .. and yes, it is a really long offseason when we don't make the playoffs !!
