They can, but all a lawyer can do is interpret rules against the constitution and laws on the books. If the NCAA changes its rules to say you are only eligible to play a sport for 2 different colleges in the same division and the schools agree to that, then a lawyer will have to prove that such a ruling is against a person's rights in whatever state they are in. Since there is no right to be guaranteed the ability to play football at endless schools on the books, lawyers may be up a creek.

But we saw this coming. If there is one think that kills the NCAA, it will be paying players and turning 90% of college athletics into a minor league for the ones with the big money.
Actually, my lawyer's comment was just a joke in reference to the NIL money. Still, the point was well taken. I think everyone knows they have to get some limitations on this out-of-control merry-go-round. Makes you wonder how much these NCAA folks are paid, it is obviously far more than they deserve.

Oh I guarantee you that the NCAA has put itself in an impossible spot here. Think of it, some of these athletes are making almost 8 figures between NILs and, in the case of a few female athletes (the chick from LSU Gymnastics comes to mind), social media sponsorship and posts. Remember Spencer Rattler? When it was legally an option, NILs came FLOWING for him from dozens of Oklahoma and national brands. He then hit the portal and money came in from big name donors and businesses all over the country trying to recruit him, then he landed at South Carolina and, again, NILs out the wazoo. There is a good chance he will make more money in college than he does during the whole of the rest of his adult life. If the NCAA tries to go backwards on ANYTHING that might affect that cash flow, including limiting the amount of transfers a player can have, there will be class action lawsuits piling up. Further, just like the student athletes at Northwestern attempted to do 3 years ago, I can see it leading to them unionizing across the country to further solidify the access to endless transfers (and, thus, endless cash flow).

What's new: The NCAA Division I Council approved legislation to limit waivers for second-time transfer players. Now, any undergraduates who transfer a second time, or any other time after that, must meet specific guidelines in order to be eligible for immediate playing time starting with the 2023-24 season or risk sitting out a year between transfers.

Hoping this is a nice WR pick up. Won't know much until he is out on the field. Initially went to Oregon State and then transferred to Eastern Michigan. I believe he has 1 year of eligibility left unless he had some sort of medical redshirt this past season. Hard to figure out why he didn't play this year. He had 4 catches in 2021 at EMU. His brother is a 4 star WR out of Bollingbrook with a long list of Power 5 offers who is currently crystal balled to Michigan.

Spencer Harris (Georgetown) - Has two years of eligibility left. I believe he has 5 career starts. Graduated from Dekalb HS

Big day tomorrow as classes resume at ISU. Information about new midyear transfers will be released to the media. It was at this time last year that QB Zack Annexstad was announced. Thanks to Dmills we know that EMU WR L'Shawn Stewart has been added to The List so Far. Will there be more? I sure hope so. This is the last chance to get players in here in time for spring practice. In addition to more WR's we have a critical need for cornerbacks. But just because that's where the need is greatest it doesn't mean that those are the positions any new players will play. It may be that linemen are available and if so you never turn down a good line commit. Fingers are crossed.

If we don't get what we want tomorrow it isn't game over. Thanks to the transfer portal, recruiting is nearly perpetual. A lot of players have entered the portal since the end of the football season. More players will enter the portal at the end of the school year in the spring to early summer period. The players that entered the portal after this past season (which was just a week or two ago for some bowl/playoff teams) haven't had a lot of time to look around and weigh offers. Many are hoping for multiple FBS offers but they won't all get them. Some will eventually realize this and then begin weighing FCS offers. I actually believe that we will have better opportunities to bring in talented transfers later this year, but again the drawback to that is that they won't be here for spring ball. It is what it is.

Added another receiver. Finished the season with 30 catches for 466 yards.

Well, I'm intrigued - 6'4. Hinsdale Central HS, not a bad program. Over 400 yds receiving this year, 30 receptions in 12 games. Our leading receiver this year had 32 receptions, and #2 had 31. Our top receiver had 377 yards this year. Think what you want about the level of competition, and I'm not playing up Valpo, but the guy has put up some numbers that we could use.

Send him out there, we need help.

Today's Madison paper had a story today that said the portal closed at midnight Wednesday. What's that mean? Closed to get in? Surely if you're already in the portal you can still transfer, right?

You would think that we had the best defensive player in the FCS would make Jordan stay but I knew he's being recruited by University of Miami so chances are it's at UCF or university of miami. What a damn shame
