Damien Jackson and TreShawn Watson have committed to Central Missouri.
Franky West has committed to Eastern Kentucky.
West transferring to Eastern Kentucky is surprising to me. I know the made the playoffs but I think ISU is better program. I would have guessed he could have landed at a stronger program.

I have no idea of his reasoning but I would guess maybe he would rather be on a team in a lesser conference that makes the playoff field than be on the 4th or 5th place MVFC team that possibly is a better team than most of the playoff field but is sitting home because of the strength of the conference. Pure speculation on my part. The second part is the new team has to have a need for the position of the portal player. That may have limited his choices. The portal is not greener grass for everyone.

Was just making an observation. When was the last time ISU had 2 RBs this size play on the same team?

Agreed about EKU.

There's always been a million reasons players decide to transfer. Don't like playing time, don't like coach, not feeling a connection to the team, academic issues, legal issues, want a specific major, girlfriend, family issues, financial issues, think a different scheme fits them, close contacts to another person, etc. I've had lots of conversations with 20 year olds...often I'm not sure they know why they make big decisions.

How many decisions we made in our 20s did we look back at and say to ourselves, "What the hell was I thinking?" Part of maturing. Some of the players that jump around will probably look back and realize it was not the best idea. For some players, it will work out great. It has always been tough to be a coach but it is really tough now.

Portal works for a select few, Ridgeway good example. Most others are lucky to make lateral moves at best. Majority are in a fantasy world accepting awful advice. Transfers in help us but those who have one nice season with us and go to the portal seeking that second time around attention are for the most part mistaken

Transfer from Illinois with 1 year of eligibility. Highly regarded center coming out of IMG Academy. Was on the IMG roster with QB Zack Annexstad, so there is a good chance that they used to be C/QB. Started 8 games at right guard as a sophomore before switching to DL his junior year. Only appeared in one game this year (senior year). Marshall and Western Kentucky are in on him so far in addition to ISU. Originally from Chicago.

Gee do you think we could fit him in somewhere? 😜

I am now officially concerned that we haven't had any announcements of transfer commitments in early '23. We have a critical need for cornerbacks and wide receivers due to players not returning - graduation or transfer. Players continue to flow into the portal on a daily basis so I remain optimistic that we will pick up some quality commits at some point, like late spring or summer, but time is running out to get players enrolled for the next semester and spring ball. For WR's it is important for them to work with Annexstad and the other QBs in Spring practice. Summer workouts are nice but they are not a replacement for 11 on 11 practices with pads and coaches. DBs are close behind. Have you ever seen a blown coverage that goes for an easy TD? It happens far too often. It happens more with inexperienced players. Either that or you are forced to play a simple vanilla defense that does nothing to confuse the opposing QB. We need additional help for '23. We'll take it later if we have to but we could really use it now.

I don't follow player portal movement very much at all. I usually see it on this board when it happens. I was thinking it has been pretty quiet and not much movement going on. I don't know what the drop dead date is for the spring semester but it has to be fast approaching. Maybe there will be a last minute flurry of activity.

I don't think the school can announce or make comments about transfers until they enroll and are on campus or sign a letter of intent. We are pass the signing period. I think there is a dead period right now too. I think we are relying on players to announce via Twitter at this point or you will here about them on Jan 17th when the semester begins. I may be wrong but I think that's how it works.
