I’m curious, and defaulting to some of the Redbird football historians on this board.
Outside of Tre, what P5 transfers have made an impact on ISU football?

Shanon Reid was our leading tackler last year. Transfer in from Tennessee. Grad transferred out to SMU this year.

Romeo McKnight lead the team in sacks in 2019. First team All-MVFC. Transfer in from Iowa. Grad transferred out to Charlotte due to COVID season postponement. He has spent time on NFL rosters since. I believe he is now playing in the CFL.

Interesting question, so I'll take a swing.

Depends on your definition of "made an impact" ... but here's a few during Spack era, which is as long as Ive been a fan. All became valuable starters, most became all MVFC.

U of I .. DE Nate Palmer (NFL), LB Evan Frierson, OL Gabe Meggenson, BJ Bello (NFL)

Wisconsin .. DT Shelby Harris (NFL), LB Ty Deforest

Iowa .. DE Romeo McKnight, RB Markel Smith

Ohio St .. DE David Perkins

Miami - OL Jermaine Barton

Oklahoma - OL Josh Aladenoye

Mich St - RB Ashton Leggett

Auburn - Kicker Zack Kutch

2011 leading rusher Ashton Leggett was Michigan St. transfer.
2008 leading rusher Walter Mendenhall was an Illinois transfer.
2005 and 2006 leading rusher Pierre Rembert was Michigan transfer.
2002 leading rusher Quincy Washington was an Illinois transfer.

2004 leading passer Yance Vaughn, I could be wrong, but I think he was OK State transfer??

2005 and 2006 leading tackler Cameron Siskowicz was Washington State transfer.

Quick look, there could be a few more.

4thandshort mentioned Jermaine Barton OL transfer from Miami, I'm pretty sure there was another OL from Miami, but name escapes me at the moment. Or maybe D line. Pegues?? Ring a bell to anyone?

Yes D-Lineman Chad Pegues from U of Miami FL followed by D-Lineman Damien Gregory from Indiana U.

QB Yance Vaughn came from Ada High School in Oklahoma

Another transfer who did good for ISU and himself - DE Brent Hawkins. Started at Purdue.

Wiki says he was runner up for the Buck Buchanan award and Hula Bowl MVP. Drafted by Jaguars, couple years there then couple years in CFL.

David Perkins was an Ohio State xfer. He made a significant impact on D.

Wasn't there an RB that was a xfer from Oklahoma in the last 10 years? I feel like fans were excited about him but he ended up behind Coprich?

Who was the WR from Illinois we had? He was really good. Maybe he was mentioned and I missed it.
Dwayne Smith - had 14 catches and 243 yards vs Illinois in 2003. Unless something has changed I think he still holds the record for Memorial Stadium catches made in a single game. His grandmother had passed away earlier that day. It was an unbelievable performance. Glad I got to witness it in person.

Johnathan Miller from Oklahoma. Had a dazzling run in the win over E. Mich. Injuries ended his career so Coprich didn't really beat him out.

and before Dwayne Smith there was Marquis Mosely, another WR transfer from Illinois. Mosely was a Parade High School All-American. Of course Marquis had a really good QB throwing to him in HS. Some guy named Billy Dicken. Not sure what happened to Dicken. Oh wait, I know. He's best friends with fourthandshort.

Mad beat me to it.

Pretty good discussion at Prairie State Pigskin on the outlook for next year. Actually sounds grim! I know there's more talent in the pipeline and we have high hopes for the portal and recruiting. But there's work to do.

So much for Coach Sprack saying all the starters were coming back. Bummed on this one well all 3.

We will see who steps up but I think the Birds need to be active in the portal and JC areas if they want to return to the playoffs next year.
