I said at the time that the bigger loss would be Moore than Coach Jank. And didn't we miss out on a Thursday nite game because of Jackie's buzzer beater against E-ville, which probably is the only reason we were able to make the NIT.
“The Shot” was the opposite of what happened to the Muller-led team seven years later: we avoided Thursday on a miracle, versus ending up there after losing a pair of games on last-second heaves from past halfcourt.

In ‘11-‘12 we also had to survive the Bradley clock operator pulling a Soviet ‘72 shenanigan in the regular season finale where he gave them three chances to win.

Sometimes the difference between success and failure is razor thin.

Or, in ISU’s case, a massive chasm.

I’d just like to see a Redbird tourney game in HD….

When was the last time this rivalry really had big conference implications? 98?
The '08 and '09 years stand out. I remember all 4 of those games had the "huge" feeling as both teams were in the top 2-3 in the league at the time. Hell, in '09 we rolled into Peoria at 14-0 and BU gave us our first loss.

The rivalry is great when both teams are good at the same time. This is true of a lot of matchups though, like Drake & UNI, or for this year Bradley & SIU, who were on national TV yesterday at a packed house in Carbondale. That used to be us.

Key word being used to be. ISU has to put multiple seasons of above average results to get back any relevance in mid major basketball. In football we have to be able to beat NDS and SDS on a regular basis. Not really that unattainable. But, we cannot afford another 3-5 years of mediocrity. Any talk of moving up in football or changing conferences for basketball has to be tempered by the reality that we have to become successful where we are at for a decent amount of time.
