The Wisconsin Associated Press/Media all-state football team was announced today. One team, all classes.

Our commit Matt Wedig from Beloit Memorial HS made the 14-man first team offensive team at the "all-purpose" position. Listed at 6'4, 210lbs.

The other two Wisconsin signees were named honorable mention, Jeremiah Jordan from Madison Memorial HS as "DB/LB", and Jack Kelly from Stevens Point Area HS as "DL/RB".

So all three end up in the Top 100, including some underclassmen. Everything I've read says Wedig is pretty special. Think his dad was his coach.

Matt's going to be an interesting kid to watch. He is a coaches kid. played out wide and returned punts! If he's got enough speed for our level he's a big target.
Rod won a bunch of games and at least 1 state championship at Big Foot. He left for the Memorial job and just resigned last month. Memorial is a terrible job. I never understood him leaving Big Foot. MadBird you know how tough the Big 8 is and with 10 teams every games is a conference game. I'm guessing he wants to watch his son play. Don't we all.

I'll go ahead and add Okolo again for 2019 even though he committed in 2018 and he is on that list. Okolo was grayshirted and he's already listed as a student.

There are a lot of different ways you can approach this list but it starts as a Verbal Commitment List. A player stays on until he de-commits or fails to sign which now includes missing both signing periods. Keep in mind you can commit and sign and never play or even show up in August. If you look at the 2018 List you can find some names that meet that description but if you sign, your name stays on.
Also de-commits can be fuzzy. I don't always count players continuing to take visits as a decommit but I try to monitor the situation. For example, Tennessee RB Xavier Myers committed and then reopened his recruiting. I've seen enough to remove him from the list. Meanwhile Georgia WR Lawrence Shadd III is another commit that didn't sign in the early period. He hasn't decommitted but he's looking around. His name is still on the list but he's hanging by a thread and I wouldn't give him much more than a 10% chance of signing in February.

Most come in as OL labeled so that's a concern. A transfer OT would satisfy immediate needs but we need O-Linemen for the future. We didn't recruit the O-Line well enough in 2013-14 and it came back to haunt us in '16-17.

Liking that our last 5 verbal commits are from outside the Midwest. Becoming more and more of a national name and expanding our exposure in recruiting.

So with Nigel White today I'm counting 6 RB's and 1 OL. And the OL will be a SR next year.
Seems a little bass ackwards.

Something that can't be overlooked is how fast our coaches have worked on these recruits. The last two committed within 15 days.
Kirby Peine: Offered Jan 20, committed Jan 30
Nigel White: Offered Jan 17, commited Jan 29

I assume this has to do with seniors feeling a sense of urgency when other offers aren't coming but that's quick work. Almost like on the basketball side where Jefferson was offered, visited, and committed within like 5 days.

I wonder if early enrollment at P5's is having a positive effect for us. seems we've gotten some kids with FCS offers that maybe dried up when other kids enrolled early and then those rides are gone making us look a little better?

I have no idea. just guessing.

Signing day is Wednesday. Today's not a good day for any of us to do any "research", assuming most will be tied up with the game (I'm just getting ready to go cook up the sauce for the wings now) but I'm wondering if we're "done", I mean, given all the commits we have gotten in the last few weeks, including transfers? Could we still get a couple more commits? How many guys can Spack shoehorn in?
