Always good to get a kid from East St. Louis, good program there. Big body WR never hurts either! Looks like he had a few MVFC offers -- Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, and South Dakota. Good get!

(Also looks like the shortest commitment tweet I've ever seen).

Sources close to the team believe this kid is a diamond in the rough. Absolute steal. “Next Cam Meredith”

shortest commitment tweet ever ? I like him already. Very nice frame to work with.

He was all conference with 50 catches for 850 yards (per Max Preps). Won 2 playoff games before losing to Mt Carmel on road by just 3. Here are his SR year game stats

Eric Rogers II (#8) receiving statistics

Date Opponent ... Receptions, Rec Yds TDs Avg/Rec
08/26 Providence Catholic (N) 5 50 0 10.0
09/02 Evangel Christian Aca. (N) 3 59 0 19.7
09/08 Edwardsville (L) 10 127 2 12.7
09/16 Belleville East (L) 6 73 0 12.2
09/22 Collinsville (L) 4 62 1 15.5
09/30 Belleville West (L) 4 57 0 14.3
10/06 Granite City (L) 3 69 1 23.0
10/13 O'Fallon (L) 3 92 1 30.7
10/20 Alton (L) 2 38 0 19.0
10/28 Libertyville (T) 3 106 1 35.3
11/04 Buffalo Grove (T) 8 111 0 13.9

Combine results below:

Chicago Nike Combine (April 2017) .. which is totally legit in terms of times. They list the following: 6'-3.5", 177 lbs, 4.45 shuttle, 32" vertical. He didn't do the forty and had a weak 32" powerball toss .. so he's got some work to do in the weight room. But guessing he could be a good one in couple after redshirting a year to get his body ready.

6'4''. I'll take THAT out of an 18 year old. Our QBs have not had a ton of outside height in the last few years. Lots of good speedsters and over the middle threats, but sometimes you just need a guy who can reach the ball at a higher apex than the other team. Having a 6'2''+ receiver at this level is an incredible advantage.

Seems like every year ISU Football continues to be very targeted in their recruiting and it doesn't give me a sense they are just filling the class. Each addition seems to target a need and be very purposeful. Might sound obvious but not the case at the FCS level as often as you would think. Its a clear indication ISU has become a program of note and can get not just players but the players they want.
Like Coach Spack says we will only see in two-three years what the real impact is of this class. Upperclassman are the backbone of winning teams. Maybe not the stars but the 4th thru 15th best players that make a team special. I am very excited about next year. It is a critical year for the program and I suspect it could turn into a very pleasant surprise. Go Birds.

After listening to the press conference it really is interesting how at FCS they have almost more ability to pull in talent than at FBS. This appears to be a huge class and Coach Spack is talking about more coming! Football is a numbers game, the more talent you can bring in the more chances of finding those diamonds, ie Cam Lee and Cam Meredith. Walk-ons, grey shirts, making use of other forms of financial aid are all great ways to add talent. Good on the birds.

Virtually zero Chicagoland high school recruits with the lone metro area player being from Plainfield. Not certain if that is a good or bad thing but is noticeable.

I guess it all depends on your definition - I see Lemont, Kankakee, St. Charles (that Plainfield is New Jersey). Plus 11 other Illinois players. I don't have a problem with that. It's a cycle, some years you get more, some less. I'd like to see a few more, but I think it's okay. Maybe that's part of the reason we had some coaching/recruiting changes.

ChiRedbirdfan, at first I thought it was nuts that you said no Chicagoland recruits but this class is very light on Chicagoland recruits. Don't know if that means our recruiting is more national or if it was a down year for the type of player ISU recruits in the Chicago area? Interesting that we get solid class from central IL and I personally like that we get Blo No kids but it is interesting with all the talent in Chicago we don't see any kids from the Western, Southern or Northern burbs??? St Charles, Lemont= 2.

2017 -- 3 kids from Chicago area (Yorkville, Chicago St. Pat's, Batavia)
2016 -- 4 kids from Chicago area (Gurnee, Marengo, Barrington, Glen Ellyn/Glenbard South)
2015 -- 7 (Calumet Park/Richards, Oswego, Naperville, Plainfield/Nazereth, Barrington, Chicago Marist & Phillips)
2014 -- 6 (Naperville, Oswego, Robbins/Richard, Aurora, Winfield/Wheaton N., St. Charles)
2013 -- 3 (Crete/Mt. Carmel, Harvey/Thornton, Calumet City/Bremen
2012 -- 5 (Frankfort/Lincoln-Way E., Lindenhurst/Lakes, Manteno, Lombard/Glenbard S., Bolingbrook)

It goes in cycles - so that 6 year average would be around 4. As a general rule I'd like to see more kids from the Chicago area, but I'm not too worried about it. I get the sense that Spack does pretty well getting the guys he really wants.

Oh, and there's a Kankakee kid in this year's group too, I'd consider that Chicago-area, they play in a south suburban conference.
