The Jacksonville/Normal Connection

I followed the Jacksonville Jaguars this past season only because of the ISU connection. JR of course but I also looked up articles and stats on O'Shaughnessy over the season. The news of Urban Meyer being hired as the Jaguars Head Coach brings yet another ISU/Normal connection from his time as an Assistant with the Redbirds. Neither Redbird player was born yet when Urban stalked the sidelines of Hancock but ... once a Redbird! Of course, the Jaguars need a lot of work (at 1-15 that is a fact, not speculation) and who knows what the roster will look like come the fall of 2021. I would imagine that nobody is safe in a major rebuilding job like that one and even with a great season by JR, does he fit what Meyer plans on doing? I would love to see both Redbirds remain on the roster for 2021 and wish them the best. It is also going to interesting to watch how it goes for Meyer. MIxed results for successful college coaches in the NFL. The most obvious example is probably Nick Saban who has done everything a football coach can do at Alabama but was not successful at all in Miami. Going back some, Lou Holtz had a great college coaching career but his stint with the Jets was less than memorable (not even a full season). Pete Carrol and others have made the jump very successfully. I would bet that Meyer does well but only time will tell. If nothing else Urban, James, and James can sit around and talk about the changes to the Redbird program, sing the fight song together, and say how much they miss the bread and the meatball subs at Avanti's! ;)

Newsflash: Urban Meyer remembers his time at Illinois State and living in the basement of Hud Venerable, but to be frank he doesn't give a rat's ace about Illinois State and only in this town he is remembered by fans that proclaim like he was some major part of history at ISU. If he cared about ISU as much as you say he does he would have been back as a head coach and attended homecoming games. Also, it is mere coincidence that 2 Illinois State players are on the Jaguars so please stop the rhetoric like ISU has a pipeline to the NFL through the Jaguars. End of paragraph

No. James O'Shaughnessy and James Robinson worked their "aces" off to be in the NFL. These are incredible success stories. Videos and discussions of their accomplishments will remain mainstays of this site. I know it's hard for you to accept Redbirds excelling at the highest level. Success happens, deal with it.

I have no issues with discussing their accomplishments. It's great to see and I love it. However, let's just stop the rhetoric of Illinois state and the Jaguars having some direct connection together. This site is invested with such commentary. 2 guys happen to be on the Jaguars now and Laurant Robinson signed a fat contract that never panned (good for jim though, great kid).

Best Regards

Funny tho, there may not be a connection to the Jaguars (or maybe there is), but when the Vikings played JVille, the Vikings coach mentioned the ISU connection with JRob. Spose he's an alum and not a guy who passed thru town for a while, but still . . . .

If I got a new job, and a couple of my employees worked at a place I had worked at in the past, I might bring it up in conversation. Just to make small talk. A connection. Just sayin' . . . .

NEWSFLASH: I was just having a bit of fun with the coincidental circumstance of the players/coach with ISU backgrounds. I assume from your post that you know Urban intimately otherwise how can you tell what he remembers fondly from his past coaching stops or does not? From the people I know, it is not unusual for them to reminisce fondly about when they were just starting out in their field of endeavor. I can't say Coach Meyer does or does not but the connection, or coincidence if you prefer, is there like it or not. If we were to say there was a pipeline between the Jags and ISU that would not be accurate but a connection there certainly is. I was just fooling around with the post and the Avanti's comment (of course if Meyer did not go to Avanti's while in Normal he missed out!) I thought it was kind of funny. I will ensure I keep any attempt at fun and humor off the board from now on (sure I will).

Trey... I don't know Coach Meyer or the two James. I have no idea how Meyer feels about ISU or his time there. As I pointed out above, unless you know Meyer personally, neither do you. When you say he does not give a rat's ass about Illinois State I guess you got that from the man himself, correct?

"Newsflash:" ..."End of paragraph". I guess that was to emphasize your feelings and opinions. Your post is pretty comical itself.

END OF PARAGRAPH! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The paper here wrote a whole article about the connection that included interviewing both players, Spack, and Marrone. And I’ve had people ask me “you went to Illinois State right?” and talk Robinson and/or O’Shaughnessy. People in Jacksonville have definitely taken notice, even if it’s just because they aren’t used to seeing players come from ISU.

Sounds like a pretty insecure, obscure response. Yet another unrealistic, out of touch redbird who gives false narrative. I'm happy you corrected your post and gave some clarity. And btw, I doubt Urban could pick me out in a lineup but I have been to 3 charity events with him present and had several conversations with him. I am not a mathematician or psychologist but I would venture to guess I would know him better than you. End of epitaph

Trey, I never claimed to know the man. In fact, I have never liked him very much at all and would not walk across the street to meet him based on what I have read and seen of him. Successful football coach but the circumstances surrounding his departure from Ohio State involving the domestic violence allegations of an assistant left me with little respect for the man. So, yes, you definitely know him better than I ... Congratulations to you! Insecure and obscure, huh? I don't believe I ever claimed to know him in any of my posts. I was simply having a bit of fun and I think you overreacted to a significant degree. Not uncommon in the social media world in which we live. Keyboard warriors! I don't think there was anything insecure in my post, nothing obscure either. I am betting you did not take many rhetoric classes while at ISU. Have a great day Trey. Continue to revel in your ability to be in touch and in your accurate narrative of Redbird Football! A lot of the rest of us will just struggle along trying to have a bit of fun in our unrealistic, out of touch outlooks and continue to give false narratives of Redbird land. Give my regards to Urban at your next charity event! ;)

If I'm lucky enough to, I will. I'll also ask him about all the infractions he has violated as a coach. Both illegal and immoral. This way I can prove I am not a keyboard warrior.

P.S.: I heard the Jaguars are scouting all Redbird practices this year. Maybe you can report on this with ADunk? Both are true experts in connecting the dots for Redbirds and informing all of us on genius takes of each sport at ISU

I think quinnie should suspend VirginiaRB for 30 days 🤔 😅
I promise to restrain myself from further futile attempts at humor or merriment. I still think the Redbirds are going to win the Super Bowl next year but that is just me being out of touch and spreading more false narratives. I never should have mentioned Avanti's anyway. Now I am craving a meatball sub and I am 900 miles away! I think we have all gone too long without a Redbird Football game. We are deep in withdrawal. 😊

I have never watched a second of the Simpsons so I guess there is some meaning to this post but ... I don't know what.
me neither, but there is a lot of drool coming out of his mouth, so I'm thinking Timmy is still experiencing Avanti's Meatball Sub withdrawal symptoms from having missed the entire fall season.

Hang in there Timmy .... there is a vaccine and therefore hope !!!!
