Interesting interview of Tanner. At least on this site, he is being projected as a possible NFL draft prospect. I think that only happens if the new offensive coordinator brings the tight ends into the passing game. Since there really was no passing game at all last year, improvement should not be that high of a bar. Since the offense, the past few years has been focused on the running game the tight ends were not a huge part of the strategy. I hope that changes this year and things open up a little more. Good luck to Tanner and the airborne Birds this season!

I agree Virginia that the passing game has been weak, no doubt there. But Taula was the #4 receiver last year based on # of receptions, and Deming at TE was the #2 receiver! So the TE's were a part of the offense last year (maybe due to the quality of the WR's, or the lack of arm strength in the QB's or ???). So yes, let's hope Taula has a breakout kind of year under the OC! We're strong at TE, that's for sure.

Shows how pitiful the passing attack was last season. I was really talking about not just last year but the past several years. There have been quite a few discussions over the past few seasons on this board about the lack of use of the TE's.
Totally agree, I think the TE position is a strong one on this team. I have high hopes our new OC installs a more balanced attack. We don't have very much longer to wait now before we get a look.

If Zack Annexstad is the short-mid range thrower he is touted to be, I think finding the TE can be big part of our offense. It must be harder than I realize, since many teams have diifficulty doing this consistently. But it's not just the QB, it's also on the OL and how much help do they need blocking. It's all about speading the defense and keeping them honest ... got to be able to run it and throw it, and use all your receivers ... including TEs.

Looking at past stats, I see that Taula was THE LEADING RECEIVER!! in the shortened, asterisk-worthy 2021 spring season! Who knew?? I plead guilty to being one of those calling for more TE in the offense.

He's got quite a bit of momentum heading into the fall.
