Would've been nice to get a win with Belmont's struggles. Nonetheless, the 'Birds are sitting in 9th place out of 11 teams with the top 8 making the conference tournament. Still 6 teams yet to record a win, so a win vs. SIU on Sunday could go a long way. Wins are worth 3 points, draws are 1.

Looks all but certain that the Redbirds will miss their 3rd consecutive MVC tournament. Need a win vs 2nd place UNI or 4th place UIC to have a shot at the 8th seed.

According to the Vidette reporting the Coach is indeed out and no longer listed on the ISU's official goredbirds.

What did Kyle Brennan do well? Same with Nona Richardson, who Brennan hired to oversee soccer?

I don't know how to tell you this one, but Kyle Brennan didn't know who Pedon was and had someone on staff doing the entire basketball search from the time he arrived.
Not saying you’re wrong . . . but can you provide source info on this? Also, Brennan did make the hire regardless of who did the search.

Current and former athletics staff have confirmed it on multiple occasions. I heard it directly from the staff member who was responsible for fundraising for men's basketball and has since moved to a school in Champaign. There was a former staff member who was tied to the basketball world and did all the work for Brennan.

Thank you for the additional insight.

I can confirm this. And it wasn’t Mulhauser.

Kabbes should be allowed to fill out his staff as he sees fit, with the oversight of Dr. Beggs. However, considering the number of openings on staff to fill, I think we’ll see more hires than departures. Then around the end of contracts, some more departures.

As far as soccer goes, we hired a former player who was a B10 assistant. A likely move, although it appears she wasn’t ready/the right choice. That being said, anyone coming in was facing a program that was not heading in the right direction.

Should hire a head coach from an OVC type school that has been successful with less resources than we provide ie our former Volleyball coach.

That works, sometimes. Johnson walked into a program that had success and resources compared to the conference. She parlayed that into significant success, especially coming in following an unconventional departure at a uncommon time.

Matters has done the same, albeit losing some players to transfer, but has not continued the same success or anywhere close. It is clear that we are not in the top tier (solely held by UNI) or the 2nd tier (solely held by Drake). You could argue that we are a third single-team tier in 3rd.

There will be a lot of interest in our program, especially with the IPF available and our resources amongst our peer schools. We will have interest from P5 assistants, sitting head coaches, and recently dismissed P5 coaches. Whoever that is has to show the ability to boost our talent level back to where it was.

No shortage of good soccer coaches; just need to land one that brings us back to the top. No way are we this close to STL, and can’t consistently compete. Facilities are going to be a huge pull with the IPF. I went to a Stanford women’s game this year, other than it being Stanford, in comparison, our facilities can compete with some of the best in the country.
This is where AD’s earn their pay; trying to find the BEST ‘needle in the haystack’, to take equivalency sports pay.

DeRose recently finished her eighth season with the Brown soccer staff and third as an associate head coach during the 2023-24 season. During her time with the program, the Bears won three Ivy League championships, competed in four NCAA Tournaments, had four undefeated regular seasons, and finished in the top 50 in the national RPI rankings for four-consecutive years. She was also selected to the 30 Under 30 Program by the United Soccer Coaches for the 2016-17 course year.

I mean she comes from a good program! Wow!

Ahhhhh...her dad was the legendary Bradley soccer coach. That makes sense!
