Are they young? Talked to one pretty knowledgeable person about it and he seems to think that Bo will get one more year as we knew it would be a building year last year and this year.

Durkac took over for a coach who had great success here, who he worked for. We didn’t lose Kingston because he got fired. Durkac also would have recruited and helped develop the players who just put up a very poor 3-year period. I can’t say there is anything showing me he should get a 5th year.

We had poor seasons in the past and still produced some great individual players. I don’t doubt we have a guy or two who could see time in the majors at some point. However, we’re talking over 50 games under .500 the last 3 years.

We ended the Barb Smith experiment after 4 years with a very significant buyout. We ended Porter’s time here after 4 years after a very significant buyout. In both instances, those coaches took over teams in a lot more trouble than Durkac inherited.

In College baseball - you can always make excuses about how "young" the team is - just the nature of the beast. If a person is knowledgeable of college baseball - they would not make those type of excuses. That is the type of excuse that comes from an administrative type who has not either coached or played baseball.

But, like Reggie pointed out - Kingston was very successful, after taking over with below average talent. So Durkac was not walking into a situation that was suffering - quite to the contrary. The problem is - his philosophy on recruiting, especially when it comes to pitching. Then does not have the ability or the staff to improve pitching - bad combinations, which lead to consecutive 30 loss seasons. The correlation to Barb Smith was a very good analogy.
