Great runner, fun to watch back in the "old days".

Whose running style does he most closely compare with of Spack era ?

Boy, that's tough. I remember Bell as being kind of a big strong "stand-up" style runner, altho not exactly a bruiser, if that makes sense. Not a shifty quick type, altho he wasn't slow. So, Ashton Leggett maybe?

You know, the size of the players is so "uncomparable" between 1970 and 2018 - linemen were 200 pounds and RBs 180 or so. I picture Ron Bell as being a 225 lb. big strong guy, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out he weighed in under 200.

Found an old program with Bell listed at 6'0, 205 lbs.

I remember another guy from that team, the "change of pace" back, Billy Lewis, not the hoops guy, listed at 5'8, 168. Bruce Elliot, the FB, is listed at 5'10, 190 lbs.

O Linemen I remember, C John Rauschenberger 6'0 205 lbs. T Ed Boehm, 6'4, 230. T Jim Wiltz, 6'2, 215.

Anyway, they sure grow 'em bigger these days!!

Sad to see. He was a big reason for us (students) to go to the games as. Our teams were not great then- but he was a very talented running back & one of the best I have ever seen in person at Hancock. R.I.P Ron Bell.

I recall watching Bell play at Hancock back in the early 70's. He was an impressive back at that time. All the players were much smaller then but I remember when he was drafted by the Steelers. Not many ISU players got looks from the NFL back then. RIP Mr. Bell.

oh my goodness ... our RBs now are bigger than our OL was then.

Makes it even more impressive that Bell was very good RB at 205 lbs ... it's all relative, but I'm guessing he was considered very agile for his size .. for that level and era.
