$ 625K is not a lot of scratch to be getting for a game like this, then again Larry is completely out of his element when it comes to this kind of stuff. They have got to get rid of this guy!

Probably a long line of FCs teams tripping over themselves that are willing to be paid this amount. If ISU were FBS they would likely get significantly more. At some point it is a worst financial proposition to be playing high expense FCS with little or no revenue than playing g5 fbs with some revenue opportunities. This game more interesting than playing some garbage d2’game at home, IMO.

Well if you have the cliff notes for how to get that done, please advise.

You don't think there is a P5 school that would do that???

And I love this game, if we keep it remotely close its a win win for the program.. plus the payout is a positive, NIU keeps their athletic department afloat with these types of games, over $3M this year..

You don't think we have offered a 2:1 time and time again to P5's??? Again, if you can make it happen, lead the way.

But have we attached a free football game to them as an enticer???

Agreed... yet another example of how not building up this football program to compete with its peer institutions has cost the athletic dept./university.

I doubt it really, NIU has been getting about $1M when they have played Nebraska and Utah if I recall, I am guessing other low level FBS are getting about the same

We are going to go into Norman Oklahoma and get our butts kicked and it will be an awesome experience. Love this game! We are going into one of the top programs in the history of college football team that is routinely in the top five in FBS. We are going to a place that beats everyone who comes in there, regardless of level. We will not win this game and it will probably not be very close but it will be as good of an experience for the program and its fans as I can imagine.

Fact is, we live in a football world with limited budgets .... 625k will help ths program. I think we got 300k from NIU ans similar amount whgen Ball St bought us out of our h&h. I don't believe we got anywhere near 625k from Iowa or Northwestern ... think it was somewhere in middle ... could be wrong.

but odds are we will lose to any legit P5 team .. granted Northwester was legit the eyar we beat them ... but they were like top 35. Oklahoma is .. well .. uh... Oklahoma. So if were' going to take an FBS payday and very likely lose, I will sing AD Lyons name in the streets for getting Oklahoma game and 625k to help our budget.

Naysayer are gonna nay .... love this game for 625k !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely, Bluto

The economics of the 1&D guarantee game are a changin'. The boatloads of money that advertisers are showering on P5 schools is trickling out in these contracts, which are going up dramatically. I personally think it's significant enough to impact a school's decision about the viability of FBS independent. Those ranks are growing. Agile organizations recognize and adapt to change more quickly.

Yeah, I get that. Spack said it would help recruiting, too. Sometimes the Redbird Nation surprises me with how well it travels.

I think only good can come from scheduling games like these. Shows at least a level of commitment - while not the level of commitment a lot who like to see, but at least some level of commitment.

Now that we have Illinois, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, NIU, and Missouri - lined for the future, now time to start getting other commitments - Board of Trustees, Hovey Hall, Alumni, and so on. Next step, the Indoor Practice Facility. I wonder if anyone has setup a meeting with Bridgestone this week, since the top brass from Japan is in B/N visiting?

Truth ... I honestly don't know, but can you name any previous FBS games where we got more ?? Granted, most of our prior FBS games were cheaper bus rides. Colorado St certainly was a flight .. what did they pay ? Iowa is big time program .. that was bus ride, but what did they pay ?

You make a good point..... Larry repeatedly leaves money on the table. It's getting harder and harder to defend keeping him around.

Does the money from a FBS game go directly to the Football program, or is it going to the other sports programs of the school?

Funny to see the team practicing in our indoor facility at Horton today because of the weather, can't they roll out some carpet turf to have a mini field?

I asked posters on AGS if 625k was fair payday for Oklahoma game. Lawson responded with following info on WIU payday games

"We're getting $450k for Minnesota in 2022, $575k for Wisconsin in 2026, and $450k for Purdue in 2028, so 625K seems decent compared to those. I don't know what the average for a MVFC school playing a P5 school is though."

i think Lyons did ok here.
