Happy that the Birds played well, have actually given some different defensIve looks during game today 👍. That being said, the bottom half of the Valley isn’t great and “being competitive/playing better“ is largely dependent on who they are playing so while I will take the opportunity to enjoy the players winning(because nothing compares with the joy of winning) I’ll limit my enthusiasm to this game for now.
The Birds played another team playing a lot of 4 guard without Domask. Injuries like Domask’s foot are something coaches have almost no control over, but recruitment/retention of players is all on the coaching staff. ISU is a team that is short on interior 4/5’s because the staff has been limited in their ability to recruit good big men and those they have haven’t stayed around. The offensive system today has Abdou shooting( and making) 3’s. I’m happy that he’s making shots that appear to be the shots the Redbirds want. I still question the wisdom of the 5 regularly playing that far away from the basket-maybe it would open up rebounds for a 4(say Andrew’s) if we had one in the game, and so dependent on the 3 ball? I wonder whether a big man watching one of the Birds games would have any interest in coming here to play in this system? Here is hoping for the same type of shooting and ball movement tomorrow.

I know SIU sucks but ISU still played well. Aggressive on defense. I liked the look on offense, beats it hell out of dribbling at the top and hand it off. If we don’t have bigs inside to score much this offense can open things up. You need to shoot well but they are a good 3 pt shooting team.

Personally, I am tired of all of the negative written here and really enjoyed watching this game. The defense, ball movement, and team approach were all good ... the steady progress came together today. SIU was sluggish and didn't play well, but our intensity magnified that. I like how this team keeps playing hard most of the time.

That was probably the best they have played and looked all year. The relentless defense and passing were outstanding. EW is looking like a solid playmaker and could be a rising Redbird contributor for the next few years. DJ consistently makes plays and is becoming the leader of this squad -- I like his confidence and swag that seems to fire up the others. I didn't realize that DJ was 9th in the nation in three-point percentage. If he keeps improving and contributing he has the trajectory to be one of the best guards the Redbirds have had. Some of the passing was very good especially recognizing those cutting towards the rim. And yes, the alley-oop was incredible! This game displayed a promising showcase of the potential these young men have and like others have said, I am just looking for improvements and some positives that we can take into next year.

Dan said in the post game that Dusan had to sit the first half due to some violations but responded well to it and came in and made some good plays. I think he will get more minutes today.

Consistency is always a challenge of a young team and I suspect this will be a close game today and perhaps some regression as well but here's hoping they maintain the defensive intensity that they showed yesterday. Defense travels so that depends on each player's personal motivation to get after it every game no matter if the offense is struggling.

Amazing that some folks can separate one game from one season and one career while others just seem more mad that we got a "W".

At least leverage the twenty-four hour rule and savor a victory, the coach debate will still be here afterward.

Since you struggle with English, I thought I would include some other languages so maybe you will stop asking the same question in every thread.

Mullins better hit the recruiting trail. We have had about 2 dunks in 2 years and today we look like Phi Slamma Jamma.

SIU is small and have no athletic ability.
But but but I thought Mullins was great and going to be eating Dan's lunch for years?

Are they improving or just playing bad teams? Once Valpo beats UNI (who has quit on the season) and Evansville loses to Indy State. Valpo goes in the top 5.

ISU will be 0-10 with an average margin of defeat of 14.2 points against the top 5 teams in the MVC.

ISU is 3-1 against the bottom 4 with a 9 ppg average margin of victory.

If we went to play Loyola again we still lose by 30.

Well we took it to Drake the first game and went to ot. We then took msu to end. Earlier in the year those games are all blow outs. Is it that hard for you to admit the team is playing better and improving?
