It’s apparent the closest thing we have to a big is Duscan and he is at most a backup!

Horn isn’t shy about shooting! But, to be fair...outside of 4-5 guards...there isn’t anyone to go too.
Horne isn't but he makes his at a good clip. Boyd though... You can tell what kind of night he is gonna have based on that first shot. It would be nice have Strong healthy to take a lot of his minutes.

That’s what shooters do, they shoot. Outside of Horne and Reeves where else would points come from? Horne also passes, but with no real finisher presence in the paint......figure the rest out!!

I think Boyd’s shooting problems started with his injury, and hoping that Strongs shooting problems were from his injury. As I posted on an earlier post:
In the Redbirds first 8 conference games (pre-Boyd injury, and Strong sitting due to injury:
Take out the one bad game Boyd had, and the one good game Strong had, and this is what you have:
Strong FG% 25-76 33% 3PT 6-24 25%
Boyd FG% 24-41 59% 3PT 13-23 57%

The talent is there just young. They are going to make mistakes. But having effort there at this point shows they will improve. I am not talking about participation trophies. Think if the Milik teams played with this effort. ADunk has talked about Muller recruiting a different type of player the last couple years. It shows. They are talented and give effort. Yesterday we started 3 sophs and 2 frosh. Yes this year sucked and the two before. These kids are different and if you take off your Muller hate glasses for a minute and watch the PLAYERS then you would see that.
Last season, I thought they had the players to win games against any Valley team but didn’t effectively use them. I disagree that players gprior to 3 years ago generally didn’t provide effort, but clearly there were some guys you could put in that category. I can’t say this season that I think they have the players to win and if all come back, I honestly wouldn’t anticipate a significant improvement in W-L without major changes to systems/staff and/or players. They have 4 decent fresh/soph guards who still need to learn how to take care of the ball and play man defense. Recruiting and retaining players is on the coaches and at a minimum, they need 3-4 new frontline players and they can’t recruit/keep them because of the lack of emphasis on the front line in the current system. If you are a forward or center, why would you watch the way the Birds play and say that is where I want to be ? In fact, after last season, it appears the bigs said “why should I come back”. I’ve got no hate for HC, I’d like for him and the team to succeed, but the writing was on the wall that the system in place wasn’t working before this season and nothing has changed.

I agree we have some talent but without a coach to hone their skills and make them better basketball players it's another one and done down in the Lou. Mr. Thursday Night. Year 9.

This is Redbird basketball.
