'Cept we're not relying on jump shots. We're getting to the hoop and missing our shots there . . .We have 11 pts in almost 11 minutes. Same ol story, when you don’t run an offense and just dependent on jump shots
Or we're turning it over on handoffs . . .'Cept we're not relying on jump shots. We're getting to the hoop and missing our shots there . . .
Smart man.I haven’t missed watching a single game this year. About 1/2 through the 2nd half I realized I just don’t care anymore and turned it off.
Credit where due-the Birds shot 71% from the line, out rebounded (SW)MSU 37-31 including 5 more OR than MSU. They only had 3 more TO than Bears, but the Bears got 15 points of TO vs 6 for Birds. happy that the Birds have been more competitive in some recent games & happy w/ improved defensive effort that comes with a young team learning the defensive effort needed at this level and the zone creates different challenges than teams are used to. The test for the staff and players becomes what can they do differently to put the young birds in a better position to succeed tomorrow? After watching the MSU/ Drake game, I’m not sure that the Birds want to play much man or transition against these guys. So the question will be, how do you give them a different zone look that will force Bears to make adjustments to game plan and how do the Birds generate better looks out of half court or make better layups?
This!I agree they are trying - so what - participation ribbons are for losers. I see almost Zero game awareness and no mental toughness. A far cry from the days of MTXE or the Donewald & Stallings toughness. The mental part of the game shows more on offense in shot selection, lackadaisical passes, and dribbling into defensive traps. I understand the team is young, but I see High School kids not make those type of mistakes.
Why does Dusan think he is a point guard at times?? In addition, there is an extremely good reason no guards him over 15 feet from the basket - his shot is terrible (free throws are proof), and he needs a good lesson in Physics to understand how to use the backboard. The Physics lesson would be good for almost everyone on our team. Since we keep making the same mistakes game after game - one wonders what type of coaching and teaching is going on - not only in film sessions, but taking that to the practice to follow-through - if that is happening.
One thing is for sure - the Birds have a firm grasp on last place and a losing record.
Couldn’t you say this about anyone on this team? It’s not like we have that one player that you fear...night in and night out.If Boyd is not hot with his shot his negatives impact everywhere else. Ndiaye wants nothing to do near the rim. Sissoko needs more confidence. I think Strong, if he were playing Boyd's minutes (and not shooting in volume) would have made a difference.
Actually, I’ve seen many games where the defensive effort just wasn’t there(feel free to blame the players, the coaches or both), so effort is an improvement and it is common for young players coming into D1 not to understand the level of defensive effort necessary to be competitive. Consistent D effort is still obviously something else. Ive been one of the largest critics of the offensive system put in place the last 3 years because of its inability to get points in the paint, rebounds, draw fouls, effectively use 4/5’s or allow for appropriate players to be on the floor for defensive matchups, etc.; as well as being critical of the overall man defense skills.I agree they are trying - so what - participation ribbons are for losers. Unlike the others, Boyd is a gunner. He fires from anywhere, everywhere, no matter how many are on him. And his percentage isn't high enough to be offset by volume. He has his two games a year where he is feeling it, but he will fire just as many on any other night when he is not.Couldn’t you say this about anyone on this team? It’s apparent the closest thing we have to a big is Duscan and he is at most a backup!Couldn’t you say this about anyone on this team? It’s not like we have that one player that you fear...night in and night out.
Horn isn’t shy about shooting! But, to be fair...outside of 4-5 guards...there isn’t anyone to go too.Unlike the others, Boyd is a gunner. The talent is there just young. They are going to make mistakes. But having effort there at this point shows they will improve. I am not talking about participation trophies. Think if the Milik teams played with this effort. ADunk has talked about Muller recruiting a different type of player the last couple years. It shows. They are talented and give effort. Yesterday we started 3 sophs and 2 frosh. Yes this year sucked and the two before. These kids are different and if you take off your Muller hate glasses for a minute and watch the PLAYERS then you would see that.I agree they are trying - so what - participation ribbons are for losers.
