Yeah, I think it should work like the NHL. You can draft a young kid and let him develop in College or wherever. You got the "rights" to sign him.

I don't know that there are ANY all conference or standouts in the MVFC that would come in for clean up duty or for injury in the B10 or SEC. They seem to transfer into important roles on those teams.
Agree with your point ..

Romeo McNight transferred because he wanted/needed to play the 2020 season to help his NFL chances - that was a pandemic transfer.

John Ridgeway transferred, presumably, because he will have a starting spot and face better competition to again improve his NFL chances. This is a new rule transfer for sure .. and he is doing it for the competition, more than getting NFL attention.

Would James Robinson have transferred under this new rule .. possibly, but his speed would have limited his opportunities a fair amount. And yes, in his situation, it may have helped his situation with NFL draft .. or maybe, his FBS reps get watered down in a quality P5 program due to his lack of speed.

But having now made it to NFL, did JR playing at ISU in the MVFC hurt his chances from NFL prep standpoint ... clearly no - he became a stud on a 1-15 NFL team - who's opponents knew he would run 20 times a game, and he still got yards. Point being, the MVFC is as strong and deep as any G5 conference ,, in fact, stronger than most, especially in upper half.

So like stl rb, my point is ... an FCS stud will not transfer to an FBS unless he knows he will have very good chance of serious reps. he won't transfer to be a back up, unless he is young and knows the 1st stringer graduates in a year. If not for the real chance at starting or serious #2 reps, the FCS stud will stay put .. particularly ones in top programs in top conferences already ... ISU in the MVFC falls squarely in that category. Our guys were already getting enough NFL looks as is before this new transfer rule. Annd their decvelopment, while not on par with most FBS programs from a game competition standpoint, it is more than "good enough" .. it is somewhere between lower P5 and upper G5.

Yes, we will lose studs moreso now, but over time, as other poster said, it may wear off some as situations play out. Meaning, it will not always help their chances .. it may help some and actually hurt others .. or do nothing but give them less (or no) reps and no actual NFL shot. Only 1 of those 3 scenarios is a good one. Time will tell, and those stories won't always end well.

Interesting concept. I believe JR is the perfect example of a guy that would DOMINATE FCS level talent and probably not wow coaches enough with any one skill to be given a starting role in a BCS conference. The coaches wouldn't see his elusiveness, patience, ability to find the hole, ability to catch, ability to block. They'd see a guy that can't outrun a starting outside linebacker and they'd put him as, at best, a 3rd down back.

It is actually interesting. I think the NFL scouts understand this and are much more willing to look at FCS backs for exactly this reason. BCS college football is full of some of the most naturally gifted physical players in the world, but very few of them have the intangibles. In FCS, most of the backs don't have 4.3 speed or a 235lb frame, but they have a collection of intangibles that is more valuable in the pros than college.

Either way, J-Rob, I feel, will be an NFL starter for at least 4 or 5 more years and I hope he gets a big check for it.

I hope the message is that Edgar is healthy, Eric Rogers has "turned the corner" and ready to contribute big, Rutkiewicz has put on 20 pounds and is on the move, and other freshman and sophs are ready to step up. Please??

also -Tristan Bailey is a prime target in the endzone. We'll see if he can become a complete receiver. After much complaining, the TE position was featured in the shortened spring season. TE Taula led all receivers with 13 catches. Someone else could emerge. We might want to have a look at the 4-star transfer from ND - Micah Jones.
