On the latest episode of View of the Valleys podcast we discuss the Mt. Rushmore for Illinois State & Eastern Kentucky (@ 24:47 mark). We also have a great visit with former SIUE head coach & previous Evansville assistant Lennox Forrester. You can find the podcast on Apple and Google. We would love to hear what you guys have to say about the show. You can also give us feedback at valleysmailbag@gmail.com or on Twitter @Viewvalleyspod

The four they selected were great players. I was thinking they should have added a player from the early 80's teams that made 3 tourneys. However, they were great teams with very good players. Rickie Johnson would probably be the player who you would pick, but not sure he beats out Carmichael, Hill or Lee. Doug Collins was a no-brainer

I had the same thought and really looked for someone from those teams in the 80s that you mentioned. It just didn't seem like anyone really stood out, but they were great teams at that time.

Thanks for listening and weighing in.

Bubbles. ISU was so loaded at the time tha Bubbles, a First Team HS All American, had to take a back seat scoring wise. The proof of that was that he led the Nets in scoring as a rookie before his demons took him down.He was married to George Gervin's sister, btw. Six players on the 1974 Redbird roster were NBA draft picks.

Actually, Bubbles and Super John Williamson both averaged about 19.5 points for the Nets that year. Not sure who was 1st.

It seems the guy picking ISU's MR, was using post-season accolades as his barometer, as well as "likability" from the fanbase. All 4 selected were hugely popular and represented the post-season awards well. Guys I think could/should have received strong consideration:
  • Tarise Bryson (#7 scoring--in 3.06 seasons {would have been #1 had he maintained his tradetory}, #1 Free throws made/attempted, #3 3FG made, #9 steals -- also, MVC NOY, POY, 2-time 1st team and 1-time 2nd team, All-American {not sure which group})
  • Ron De Vries (1000 pt club, #1 rebounding, the top 2 single season rebounding records, didn't count blocks in his era, All-American)
  • Ron Jones (# scoring, #2 steals, #2 assists--including #5 single season record as a frosh!. . . and he was NOT the PG, All-American)
  • Billy Lewis (#2 scoring, #6 rebounding, All-American, hops to die for)
  • Osiris Eldridge (#5 scoring, #1 3FG, MVC FOY, 2-time 1st Team)

Others who should receive 'votes' but not be on the MR:
  • Dan Muller
  • Fred Marberry
  • George Terry
  • Hank Cornley
  • Rick Lamb
  • Ricky Jackson
Stand alone statue for most improved player over career: Dinma Odiakosa . . .
