Just a thought, maybe,it would be in Illinois State's best interest long term to just use walk-ons, mid-level local talent. Building a team that will actually stay for four years and not having high level athletes not transferring out every season. With that being said the team always be a middle of the road type of team but at least consistency and couple tournament wins and everyone should be pretty happy with no attraction to higher conferences. As well season ticket holders can just keep it a social club atmosphere concerning men's basketball program. Win win all around.

Honestly, not a horrible idea. I truly can't see us ever competing under the current landscape. We can't offer enough NIL money to sway a kid away from a elite program and Pedon saying he doesn't want those kids eliminates about 90% of the kids anyway (did I misunderstand him?) That and the portal make it impossible for a mid major to ever accomplish anything other than being a stepping stone for a P6 school. Sad, but it's reality.
Something has to change...

ISU is not trying to win the NCAA tournament. That is unrealistic. The NCAA has changed the landscape to empower the Power 5 conferences even more than they were already favored. However, I see NO reason we cannot compete with teams in the MVC. ISU has not even been able to do that since 2018. That is frustrating.

With all of the changes to favor the big guys over a period of many years, my preference would be basketball change into two groups like football has. To me, that would be fun.

If your goal isn’t an NCAA championship, then what exactly are you shooting for?

You guys are pathetic. Turn in your fan cards and get off the message board. You won’t be missed.

They have needed a big man since Jackie left. They have needed a true PG since Paris left. I identified ISUs problem. Bit, the last and current administration seems to prefer shooting guards and power forwards.

Cal Bird....Right now, my goal is to win tomorrow. However, after that a winning season would be nice. Accomplish that and then a MVC championship would be even better. Accomplish that and we can talk about loftier things.

Bird Fan Grad 2011....I have attended and watched more ISU games than most people on this board. I will get up at 6AM tomorrow and fly to STL and be in my seat before NOON with a beer and keep my FAN CARD.

Have you seen the clips of Kinziger? I didn’t think so. Clearly the current staff values point guards. And they have a coke machine coming in, too.

In real NCAA programs the ideal possibility is to win and NCAA championship what plant were you born on?

So according to Manchester matt, only fiction of Illinois State basketball is to have people waste money on scholarships and people watch a mediocre team and they should actually go back and play in Horton field house and tear down Redbird arena

Blah blah blah. The second game will be the worst defeat ever for a first round Missouri la team ever. Then five players of transfer out being five players transfer in. Just let the other sports teams move on because they deserve to move to bigger conference and downgrade the basketball team because that's what everybody wants

Another “fan” who can’t handle the fact that this programs’ best days are long gone and can’t fathom that the landscape has been changed to kill any and all mid majors.
Enjoy the occasional CBT win.

I can get on board with two levels of college basketball.
At some point, even respectable teams from the P6 will be left behind (Rutgers, Minnesota, Arizona State, Washington, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, just to name a few). It’s going to be two 20-team conferences (Big Ten and SEc) and then everyone else.
Watch it happen.
