Explain why we can invest 13 million dollars in a football bubble, but we can't invest in buying out a bad contract? Basketball is truly the only sport at ISU that CURRENTLY can make money. We just can't afford to keep buying out a coach and making the same mistake. That means the next coach needs to make the dance and have some stability before he is given such a huge contract extension.

I am not privy to the numbers but it's been said that donations and season ticket holders are trending down. A quick analysis would suggest that a program being coached by a guy for 10 years and not a lot of ROI from that coach might be a great deal of our issue. We do see attendance down all over the country at sporting events so we can factor that into the equation but at the end of the day we need to ask ourselves...if we can't afford to fire him, can we afford to keep him?

Isu is 8th in average per game attendance in the MVC. We can try to make the argument that attendance is down everywhere to make us feel better, but fact of the matter is that is embarrasing for ISU to be 8th in attendance in this league. Hell, Evansville is averaging larger crowds… We aren’t in a league with Illinois and Michigan state… but hey, let’s just accept mediocrity and keep plowing forward!

now, Now, NOW ... do not going using the actual numbers to refute JJS, that is the kind of thing a homer Kool-Aid drinker would do.

If anyone on here is trying to convince others on the need to keep/fire Muller, you're preaching to your own choirs. There is nothing . . . NOTHING . . . new that anyone has added to the discussions/rants/pleas/badgerings/shouting matches/thread-hijackings about firing/keeping Muller.

I know Quinn was just curious, but what have we learned here?

Alternative Universe! Wondering if the most vocal fire Dan still support the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund? I can understand not attending games, but the athletic department still has to fund athletes‘ tuition and other fixed expenditures. How many BB and FB fans continued to give in the 2020 COVID year? How has the COVID drop in revenue (ticket, concession, sponsorship, IL football pay game, tv, gifts, etc.) tied the hands of the AD to make financial decisions. Do you eat years on a buyout which might limit resources to resigning the volleyball coach that has several NCAA appearances? By not financially supporting the Athletic Department you just might be prolonging the AD’s decisions that you want him to make.

Beating a dead horse, but U of I had to borrow 34,000,000 $ from the University to pay its bills last year. And during a non COVID year they receive $50,000,000 from the Big Ten Network. Last year was brutal on college athletic budgets and no one could anticipate a world-wide epidemic.

Wait, so the athletic department only cares about the conference games when it comes to ticket sales, concessions etc? Seems to me that there are expenses associated with EVERY home event, if you’re going solely off conference home games that number is largely inflated due to ISU hosting Bradley recently which will be be far the most attended game of the season. Seems to me you’re the one cherry picking the data here

The actual numbers show ISU is 8th based on ALL home games. Why don’t we just play every non conference game on the road like Jackson State if those games don’t matter to the bottom line?

and in other news, former Connecticut coach wins an arbitration settlement against the University. The university has been ordered to within 10 days pay Kevin Ollie 11 million and some change. Makes a two year buyout seem reasonable.
