I have to think that 7-4 puts ISU at, probably, #23 or #24 at the end of the season, which- I think we can all admit- was a not expected by hardly any of us here or anyone outside of the locker room. If we go 7-4, end the season in the T25 and don't make the playoffs, I still consider the year just a huge W.

I'd LIKE to make the playoffs and have a hard time thinking that we wouldn't at 7-4 (especially if one of those 7 happens to occur in a Dakota), but I didn't expect us to have a winning record this year, much less be pushing for a playoff spot.

Great job to Spack and co. Keep it up.
I completely agree. If they finish 7-4 and don’t make it with the youth of this roster, grrrr will be lofty expectations next year.

Fun to go back and look - I checked the season predictions thread, and was surprised at how few brave souls made a prediction (I was one of the scaredy cats). But actually, 7-4 was a popular choice. By those willing to make a prediction.

8-3: one vote
7-4: 3 votes, with all of the 6-5 predictors saying 7-4 was a good possibility
6-5: 3 votes
5-6: 2 votes

So actually 7-4 was expected by some on the board.

I don't think you should downplay the UNI game completely - primarily because they have only lost a grand total of 62 games on their home field since they opened it in 1976. Tough place to go get a W. They're getting ready to enter a 4 game stretch where they have a shot at knocking off Missouri St., SIU, SDSU, SD. They're definitely in a situation where they have to win out just to get to 7-4, but if they somehow manage to make it happen then all the sudden our win there looks even bigger.

Another possible question; If SDSU continues their current run over the next 3 weeks and is sitting at 9-1, how relentless will they be in the final week of the regular season with their playoff bid and seeding likely locked up? At some point prior to or even in our game, will they rest some guys headed into the playoff to make sure everyone is 100% healthy? Not sure if they'd do it at the expense of Senior Day, but it's still something to think about.

As far as we go, just go take care of business the rest of the way. Plug away, win games, and control what we can control.
SDSU isn't resting anyone in that final week. If they go 9-2, they could easily drop to a #3 seed and lose home field in the semis. No reason to rest players for 2 straight weeks with a bye in the 1st round.

Yep, I agree with Warrior. Just the fact that we are discussing possible playoff opportunities is pretty huge. I am happy with how things have gone in a year very few of us have expected this type of play. Absolutely the boys have a ways to go and improvement still needs to be made. But so far, not too bad really.

Although NDSU has a bye week to Prepare... All the board Bird Fans assumes we will lose to both NDSU & SDSU. Not sure how many of you watch Indiana/NDSU game. It not like NDSU was dominating Indiana. I watch the entire game the Ref's gave NDSU a TD on a BS call similar to our SIU game. I was almost wondering if it was same ref we had. Twice personally Indiana had a bad call against them. #1 Redbirds need to beat Indiana ! If we go and beat them by 2 td's.... Ah I don't want to hear the bandwagons fans hoping on the back of the wagon with we can beat NDSU. All teams put the pads on the same way which Indiana played NDSU toe to toe. So same should apply to REDBIRDS go toe to toe and lets us see who has the BEST KO PUNCH !

The return of the Grim Reaper - Muller's gone, Larry Lyons is gone, gotta rag on someone.
Since the loss in the 2014 Championship game Spack is 3-3 in playoff games.
Finished above .500 in MVFC games once in the last six seasons (19-25) A loss Saturday at Indiana State would likely make it one finish above .500 in the last seven seasons.
2015 MVFC 7-1 Playoffs 1-1
2016 MVFC 4-4 Playoffs 0-1
2017 MVFC 4-4 No Playoffs
2018 MVFC 3-5 No Playoffs
2019 MVFC 5-3 Playoffs 2-1
2020 MVFC 1-3 No Playoffs
2021 MVFC 2-6 No Playoffs
2022 MVFC 2-1 (currently)

Is this a resume closer to:
A field named after you?
Being fired?
Not getting a contract renewal in 2025?

Like I said, if he doesn't make the playoffs this year that's five out of the past six seasons. One runner up before that doesn't erase 20-24 (if they go 5-3 this year like we're assuming) in the MVC the past six years. How many places wouldn't fire someone who can't even do an average job over a six year period?

I don't understand why people are presented with the facts and still decide they want to watch more of just falling further and further away. They want to get to the furthest point possible before they decide to do something about it. 6 years is enough information. Lets stop the bleeding now before you pass out and go to the hospital.
